"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" ads

I just got back from several days in New York City, and I noticed that ads for the new comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” are all over the place. I’ve heard they’re everywhere in Chicago too. They say things like “You suck Sarah Marshall” and “I am so over you, Sarah Marshall” and “You do look fat in those jeans Sarah Marshall”. Anyone else seen them, and what other cities are they in?

I’ve seen them in the Dallas area. I also like the blogs that “Peter” and “Sarah’s number one fan” maintain.

They’re all over LA, too, especially the west side.

Yes. The first one I ever saw is on a billboard on the Bishop Ford expressway northbound into Chicago. I could not (or did not) see the MPAA rating box on the billboard. As I passed, I thought we might have another “mom killing another cheerleader’s mom so her daughter can get on the squad” type thing.

and then I saw one on the back of a bus and realized it was a movie ad. I already don’t want to see it, but I’m reactionary that way.

I haven’t seen them in the Dallas area at all. I think you’re making it up!

Boyfriend and liar, nothing to see, move along. :stuck_out_tongue:

This has been a bit of an in-joke with us. I’ve seen 4 ads around our hometown - one while we were on the DART together - and he hasn’t seen any. Ditto the television commercials. He was also afraid that the links I posted earlier were rickrolls.

Shouldn’t have rr’ed his phone… :smack:

Ditto. After seeing the ads all over LA, I googled them to find out what they’re for. Then I read the movie summary. Sadly, the ads appear to be the best part of the movie.

All OVER the fuckin city. I saw them before I saw the movie previews on TV. It looks stupid.

When I was in Seoul, some company used a similar ad campaign. I came to campus one day to find the walls around campus plastered with what looked like handwritten signs saying “Jiyeon I Love You!” The campus was abuzz because we thought some guy had actually done this as . . . I don’t know, a confession of love, an attempt to propose, etc. But it didn’t take long before we realized the same thing had happened on every campus all over the city (Seoul has a lot of universities - ten I can think of off the top of my head). I don’t remember what the ads were for, ultimately (definitely not a movie though), but I do remember the ads.

Have not seen them here in Jackson, Miss.

Sounds like that’s a blessin’.

I never sucked Sarah Marshall.

I wonder if there’s an actual Sarah Marshall out there crying because someone is putting up mean billboards everywhere.

Pat had a similar experience when she thought people couldn’t stand her.

They’re all over the subway system here.

I got 154 matches on a facebook search. Fortunately (at least), I haven’t seen any in the Philadelphia area (although I’ve heard many “regular” commercials for the movie).

The LA Times did an article earlier this week on the reactions of real-life Sarah Marshalls to the ad campaign. Nobody was really offended, it seemed, and a couple of them expressed curiosity about the movie.

BTW, there is a “My mom always hated you, Sarah Marshall” billboard near my workplace, and 2 bus bench ads about a block away, one of which I sit near as I wait for my bus. Before I realized it was a movie ad, it felt a little odd sitting next to “You Suck Sarah Marshall.”

And personally I kept saying “That’s not – I don’t know who Sarah Marshall is, but that’s Kristen Bell, so SOMEONE is confused. Is Kristen Bell somehow not her real name? Is she someone in a show named Sarah Marshall?”

Yeah, I haven’t had my coffee yet. :o

Keep seeing them on the Toronto subway too… Had no idea what they meant til now… and don’t care to.

So far Cleveland seems to be “Sarah Marshall” free…but I don’t get out much.

… I have.

Wasn’t worth putting up a billboard, though.

There so ubiquitous in the Bay Area, that there’s even been a mild backlash.
