Forgot Blackberry Password

I have an old Blackberry (Bold) that I haven’t used in 7 months, and my wife has an even older Blackberry that is sort of falling apart, so she’d like to switch to my old one. Problem is that I’ve forgotten the password. I used up 6 of the 10 chances already.

From looking around a bit, the impression I get is that if I guess another 4 times what happens is that the phone gets wiped clean, i.e. that I lose all stored data. If that’s the case, then I’m OK, because I don’t need anything that’s stored on that phone anyway.

But I want to be sure this is correct before I do it rather than risk being locked out of it forever.

[In case this makes any difference, the phone was originally provided by my employer and when I was eligible for an upgrade they just gave me a new phone and didn’t need the old one back. But my account is still active, just with a different phone.]

This seems to indicate using up the 10 tries will brick it

First link above corrected

The first link is about unlocking the phone for use on a different carrier, and the second, whilst very helpful, requires the PIN for prior registration, which might not be available without the password first ( at a guess ).
This Blackberry page details getting one’s password reset by sending one’s Blackberry email address, and having the new password sent to a different computer with instructions.
Reset Page.

In case anyone is interested, having done it, the answer is that it wipes the machine of all previous data and lets you reset the password.
