Foriegn Dopers: What is your country's dietary RDA

This has been one of those puzzlers for me for quite some time. Our great nation also is one of the pudgiest. Alot, as we all know, is due to a lack of exercize, but everytime I see the food pyramid chart with the Six to Ten servings of bread a day, I just roll my eyes.

If I ate 6-10 servings a day of bread, I would make Sally Struthers look svelte.

Now, I was wondering to those who live outside the boundaries of the US, what is your country’s recommended daily allowances for nutrition?

That’s not 6-10 servings of bread, it’s 6-10 servings of grain products: bread, pasta, cereal, rice, etc. And a “serving” is pretty small, smaller than the servings listed on the nutritional information on the food packaging.

Examples of a single serving are:
1 slice of bread, 1 half of a hamburber bun, one once of breakfast cereal, 1/2 cup of hot cereal, 4 crackers, etc.

On the other hand, keep in mind that you’re only supposed to have the 2-3 servings of 2-3 oz of meat.

2 servings of 2 oz = 1 quarter-pounder.

Of course, you can also have 1/2 a cup of beans or one egg as a serving.

Okay, didn’t answer your question, but I gave it a bump, and maybe fought a little ignorance.

Here’s the Canada Food Guide. I suspect it’s pretty similar to the US equivalent.

2000 calories for women
2500 calories for men

for active people its the same + 10/20%
dependant upon your activity level

about 1500 for people over 50
