Elvis, I don’t see any need to beg Clinton supporters not to cut off their noses to spite their faces. Some will, some won’t. It’s their decision. Just as it was mine when I voted for my second, third, or fourth pick in the last several elections. I’ve never recalled this much bitterness from anyone pre-Hillary.
So, do you have your nose shears ready? Or are you going to vote Obama?
Yep, but I got the feeling it was hand-waved away or at least attempted to. I think the Clinton representative for MI, said he heard that she said it, but he didn’t hear her say it in MI, so he doubted it had any sway with the MI voters.
Wow, what a surprise that a Clinton representative would say that Michiganders feel that a make believe election with only her name on the ballot really does reflect their will.
Is Terry McCaulliff (sp?) Mentally dearranged? Asked point blank about the numbers and how Clinton can’t possibly win, he looked like a deer in headlights saying he thinks she’ll be the nominee on Wednesday morning. George Stephanopolos asked Terry after making that remark if he was serious…It was very funny, I wish I could have freeze-framed the look on Terry’s face. I haven’t seen dark circles under someone’s eyes that big in along while. It must really be trying to the nerves to stand up on national television and say the sky will fall with a straight face.
What does his demeanor say to me?: That they have their exit strategy and they are waiting 3 days to come out with it. I should have tivo’d "This Week" so I could post the look on Terry’s face.
I’m referring to the aspect of blowing past opposition when it could no longer effectively oppose and proceeding to the next objective, instead of stopping to destroy every last bit of it. That was, after all, the point of the analogy originally presented; that that was what Obama has had to do. Well, it ain’t. Fair 'nuf?
Still wondering when the gleeful McCain bashing starts, since he’s been that next objective for months now, not to mention the only one that matters to those of us more interested in progressive policies and their efective implementation than in RO.
I would think not until Clinton concedes the nomination, or until someone explains it to her that she is not going to be the nominee.
I will focus all atttention on the GOP when they are the only opposition. But with opposition coming from the Clinton Camp for at least a few more days - the forking is still hers to be had.
Actually Phl Obama has fairly completely pivoted. The problem is, as some talking head said yesterday, that he still has this trailer with two flats hanging on to his back end.
Yes it would have been helpful to the GE effort for Ickes to accept the compromise with some modicum of grace rather than using the podium as a good place to try to spread gasoline on a fire. But in reality it is unlikely to be all that flammable and this toddler tantrum shall also pass.
While I doubt that Team Clinton will, they may very well decide to go past Huckabeeing and into Ted Kennedy/Gary Hart land. If that occurs then Obama supporters will be making a mistake if they allow that to distract from completely focusing on achieving a Democratic victory in November.
It is indeed time to move on. No final forking of McCain for a long time but I’m ready for the the salad fork course!
I agree - I just have a hard time looking at a candidacy that is shooting skeet with blanks and claiming they are hitting their targets. It’s out and out lies. What does she expect to accomplish? The scorch the earth policy she appears to be talking about [bringing this all the way to the convention] will get shut down by party elite hopefully sooner than later.
To me, it’s the distressing observation that American political culture has gotten to the point where a viable presidential candidate would openly adopt “The Big Lie” propaganda technique.
Yes, even informational posts will get you spit on in this thread.
I’m beginning to wonder whether the Hillary fans’ll take their gripes to the supreme court in hopes of a one off ruling to protect their candidates reputation.
It’ll be good to finally see the the backside of the DLC.
Perhaps, but they should still be treated with courtesy and respect – if not for their sake, then for ours. The alternative is spiteful, and spiteful behavior is bad for the soul*.
Besides, in the long run I’m sure there is some practical gain to be had from repaying the antagonism of Clinton supporters with kindness. Fewer of them will stay home (or vote McCain) in November if we avoid dismissiveness and condescension in June.
(* = “Soul” here is being used in a broad, metaphorical, atheistic way; a more traditional religious definition probably works just as well, however.)
So how close is Sen. Obama to wrapping it up in the next three days? Someone said on the previous page that he now needs 66 delegates to secure the brass ring. How many committed delegates is he likely to pick up?
There are 86 pledged delegates left to distribute, and 205 supers. Obama is likely to pick up a majority of the Montana and SoDak delegates.
Montana 24 total delegates
SoDak 23 total delegates
PR 63 total delegates
I’m not the poll guy, so I don’t really know precisely how things look for anyone, except that, as I noted before, Obama will win MT and SD. Clinton will probably win PR, but the proportions are iffy, because of various localized PR factors. Basically, no one knows exactly how PR is going to turn out, other than the very generalized idea that Clinton will get the majority of delegates.
Hey, I’m all for meeting these people halfway, but no further
The rabble that Hillary had come to this meeting was a disgrace. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about it in the future. Here’s a nice, rotten, taste.
It’s the last lunatic fringe that is supporting her, and she is enabling them. They think Obama is a murderer? Can you seriously believe that without being insane?
Anyway, I think the McCain bashing will begin when it needs to. Hillary is gone, yet she still manages to do damage to Obama and the rest of our party. For that she deserves nothing but contempt. It takes a special kind of shithead to try to ruin it for everyone when he can’t have his way. That’s the point of all of these fork Hillary threads.
When will she get it?
When will her supporters get it?
When will they stop doing damage to Obama?
Do they care about the party?
It’s really just looking spiteful now. It has long since become mathematically impossible and yet she still stays, doing all of this damage, because there is a tiny sliver of a chance. And nobody will kick her out because the remaining super-delegates are such cowards that they can’t commit. I wonder if they’ll actually do so after the final primary. I have my doubts with a lot of them. That’s why we write in the fork Hillary thread. To vent our frustration.
And as to the talk about the “dream ticket.” Don’t make me vomit. It’s especially ridiculous the way the media is handling this. They were entirely dismissive about the idea until about 2 days ago when the dream ticket was suddenly on the table again. It will never happen, as a previous poster said about Carter. Obama should be very careful before giving them any power at all. He is in a position right now to give them none. Trying to placate Hillary by giving her a VP slot would be a terrible way to show that you can be pushed around. And the Clintons would continue to do so.
I’ve read that Obama is considering offering her a chance to work on UHC. I don’t even know if I trust her to do that, given the way she fucked it up in 1993. Running over everyone like a freight train and then expecting everyone to fall in line and vote? I want UHC, and getting her to try to implement it might just be the only way it doesn’t get passed.
I reject the idea that Obama supporters owe Clinton supporters some kind of apology for supporting a better candidate who ran a classier campaign that didn’t involve legal threats or a scum bag like Harold Ickes. Either grow up and realize that nobody owes you anything and vote for the best candidate, or vote out of spite and enjoy the mess you made. Hell, spite won the last two presidencies. I see no reason why a third term couldn’t successfully complete the damage to our national reputation, financial solvency, and civil rights. And just think how comforted you will be by the doom… knowing it was all the fault of Obama supporters for not listening to your strident, annoying whining with a bit more tact and giving you no recourse but to go into a childish tantrum and vote Republican.
