First I think we’re all going to be highly impressed with Obama in the general. He’s had to pull his punches with Hillary, because he knows he’ll need their support in the general. But every now and again, he comes out and smacks her around a bit just to show everyone that he can.

In sum, Obama is real. He is calculating, doesn’t flub his responses to tough questions, and when a reporter asks him something boneheaded he responds accordingly. He doesn’t get the look of shock and reply with something stupid, he replies with a real answer. Personally, I think reporters who have asked him bonheaded questions ala Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopolos in that silly debate should really get a better read on Obama. Because you can ask away on tough or seemingly difficult questions and he’ll look you right in the eye and give you the real scoop.
I agree McCain will lose his cool more than once, and it will effect some people but not all, and certainly not the Limbaugh crowd.
Speaking of which, my wife asked me the other day why I listen to Rush Limbaugh sometimes and why I go on Hillary’s website and McCain’s…my simple answer is: Know all sides of every debate, even the ones you staunchly disagree with, helps with making informed decisions.
[QUOTE=Elendil’s Heir] spoke-, that’s (your post #1691) what I would’ve written, almost word for word. I think this is Obama’s general election to lose, and I am cautiously optimistic that he’s gonna win. But it won’t be easy.
CNN.com says that six of Edwards’s superdelegates will be endorsing Obama in the next day or so.

Nitpick- those were pledged delegates, not supers.

That should put him over 1900 total delegates if he hasn’t passed that already.
If he keeps pulling 4-5 supers a day, he might go over 2024 (or at least get damned close to it) in Oregon and Kentucky next week.
Of course, I wouldn’t expect Hillary to get out just because Barack actually, officially wins the nomination. If he goes over 2024, she’ll just start with that line about how the real number is eleventy-five zillion, or whatever that number was she came up with recently.

There will be a point Clinton backs down - we can only hope it will be before the convention. I really hope it is, it would be the right thing to do for her party. I’m hoping she not only understands that, but acts on it.
[QUOTE=Biggirl]
Nope. Not gonna fall for that again. I was sure, positive, without a doubt, sanguine about Bush losing in '04. I mean, there was no way that moron could win again!
This time it isn’t Bush and it is a black man. I am hopeful but by no means am I sure. A blow-out? No way.

What she said.
I think you guys are overestimating how easy it will be for Obama to win.
Yes, in Obama vs McCain, Obama is vastly preferable to most people if they made an honest assessment of it. But they won’t. It’s not Obama vs McCain, it’s ® vs (d).
McCain could eat a baby on live TV while Obama invented a process that converted dirt to gasoline, and it’d still be a close race. People are so stupidly attached to their party affiliations (and this goes for both sides) and they often stick to that despite their better judgement. One of the things I like about Obama is that he seems to hate that aspect of politics.

I imagine this is why people (well, Democrats) are excited about the recent special election wins in heavily Republican leaning districts. It’s as though the (R) team has actually screwed up so much that some people are breaking out of this partisan-only mold.
My wife’s religious right aunt (hereafter known as email-glurdge-lady) has already sent out her “thank god we don’t have to vote for Macain now that Barr is in the race” email glurdge.
He’ll save us from Gay marriage dontchaknow.
On the plus side, it’s the first email from her in a long time that wasn’t filled chock full of american flag gifs and crosses.
[QUOTE=Wildfire**MM]
Obama now have 291 superdelegats (+7 since yesterday) while Clinton have 274 (+1 since yesterday)
Obama have a total of 1899 while the number for Clinton is 1719 - a differance of 180 delegats

Nice to see that Europe is keeping up with this. It’s important for the whole world, really.
I just want to re-emphasize, he will be going for an electoral blow-out but it won’t be easy. The “50-state” strategy is a risky approach and could backfire relatively easily over the “50-plus one” approach. I think that he can do it but it is also possible that he’ll flub it. This will not be an election for the faint of heart or those without some intestinal fortitude as well.

When do we start the “fork Macain” thread?

Well, whatever you do, don’t discourage her. I’m all for Barr Naderizing the election as much as possible.
