I just heard this on NPR. Wow, Elendil’s Heir, you’re quick.
Maybe they are waiting to see how the RBC plays it?
Maybe they’ve been distilled down to the wimpiest who are just waiting for it to resolve itself?
I do not think that Obama wants to risk that PR will put him over though. He wants to win there but it makes for better theater for the last US primaries to cinch it for him.
Hillary’s trying to muscle her way into the VP slot proves to me that she’s finally off her rocker. Obama didn’t put up with “Ready on Day one” for 6 months only to have her join his campaign. How is that supposed to reflect on him? If she had been more of a gracious loser and less of an attempted cheat, then it might be easier. So now the plan is, “Pick me for VP or I’m going to fuck you over,” based on her little trip to Florida at least. Obama would look like he’s caving in to her. Can you imagine what a nightmare it would be for him? Sharing the spotlight with Hillary AND Bill? We don’t need three Presidents. The Clintons think they have him by the balls, but they don’t. Obama will never choose him.
“Ready on Day One”… what a joke. She had known, most of her adult life that she’d eventually run for President, and she still wasn’t actually worth a damn as a candidate until Ohio. It took her three months of primaries and nearly a year of organizing the campaign to get to that point?
I am glad to say that a majority of Democrats have seen the light to know better than to let her run anything in the future. I wouldn’t trust her to run the local co-op much less the entire country.
That’s why I can’t believe it’s even being bandied about that he might pay off her campaign debt to, either get riid of her or buy her support and her supporters’ support. Obama should surely give her that stink-eye look he’s been known to give, at that suggestion.
I don’t believe she should drop out simply because it’s mathematically impossible for her to win honestly. But if she continues, for no logincal reason, with a crippled and ineffective campaign that going deeper into debt and expects somebody else to pay for it, she should consider if it’s really worth it to continue.
Let the Clintons pay it off with those millions they’ve made and also they should remember they were the ones who made it impossible for him to pick her after her disparaging comments about him.
Now I’m confused. Last week wasn’t the Clinton campaign saying that if the Democrats had a winner-take-all system like the Republicans do, then she would have been the nominee long ago? Yet today it seems like they think the popular vote is more important. I’m getting nauseated from the spinning…
Seriously, I’m starting to wonder if Hillary is completely off her rocker. I have visions of her being carried out of the convention in a straight jacket screaming “No! I won! I deserve it! You can’t do this to me!” I truly hope that the above posters are right that Obama would never give her the VP slot. That is one thing that would completely destroy my respect for him, as he’d just become another politician willing to sell out his ideals for a win. In addition, I actually had the horrible thought that if he did make Hillary VP, she just might take out a hit on him.
After making the comment that your username fits with the speculation, I have to say I’'ve thought this, seriously, more than once.
I don’t think she’d go so far as to do that, but she probably would make his life a living hell. I can see her and Bill undermining his authority at every turn, or cajoling and chivvying him into doing what they want.
Don’t forget the crying on cue.
I was kind of kidding but the “seriously” part has started to enter my thinking with her latest delusional statements and the off-base and desparate line(s) of reasoning she’s been engaging in lately.
I don’t think she should be the VP either, but you have very little faith in Obama if you think as POTUS he won’t be able to control his VP.
Not so fast there. I don’t think she could force him to go where she wants, but it wouldn’t be for a lack of trying. Even so, she’d be a headache.
I can see the nightmare situation from here already. Seeing that if Hillary were the VP, Obama would be unable to fire her. She’d be elected to the position and would be there at least four years. I’m sure she’s undermine him at every turn and hog the stage, waiting for 2012.
You think it’s bad now? It’d be the same thing except four years long. Obama could, and would, strip her of all power that isn’t constitutionally mandated, but she’d simply undermine his legitimacy at every turn. And there would be, of course, a group of feminist Hillary supporters who would be more than willing to excuse way too much of her bad behavior just so they could see the first woman President.
Where do you think she wants to go if she was the VP, and how would she achieve her evil plan?
I used to think an Obama-Hollary or Hillary-Obama ticket would be the perfect one. Now I don’t. If Obama wants to be the candidate for change, Hillary will prove to be a millstone around his neck. she represents the old-style politics. And then, of course, there’s Bill on the sidelines. As much as I liked him as president, I think it’s time for him to exit the spotlight.
Goodness, you are reading a lot into what I’m saying, aren’t you? I admit I’m phrasing it melodramatically, but I never said she was evil. She very clearly has her own agenda and her own ideas on how to implement it, and were she in the VP slot I think she would do her damnedest to follow through on said agenda as though she were the president. I don’t think she’s evil, though. If I thought she were, I would seriously think she meant to off Obama.
I would just like to add:
Remember when Hillary lost NC and nearly lost IN? The consensus was that, “It’s really over for real this time, guys.” Someone opened up a Fork IV thread and a mod moved it to IMHO or somewhere else because the mood at the time was there was little to discuss? Well, yeah…H-Dawg don’t play like that. I’ve been drawing lines in the sand for her every step of the way. It’s like that Bugs Bunny / Yosemite Sam cartoon where Bugs draws a line on the ground and Sam steps across. Every time you think, “surely not. surely she won’t do it!” she does. That’s why I think she’s going to the convention.
Did you guys notice that she’s going to have her supporters at the May 31 decision about FL and MI? Just like Rove shipped in that “mob” for the FL recount? It’s beyond irony. It’s like she took irony and bent it into a pretzel shape. She’s criticizing the democrats for obeying her wishes in September of 2007 by likening it to the FL recount of 2000 (and Mugabe?) by employing the tactics used against her party in said Florida recount in 2000, while also likening it to the civil rights movement despite the fact that she just finished playing “Vote for me because I’m white” in WV.
So let me win because otherwise Mugabe / Bush / Hillary September 2007 / Obama / Anti-Civil Rights people / Black People will win otherwise.
So far today, Obama has gained two superdelegates, including a Clinton defector:
California Representative Dennis Cardoza (switched)
California Representative Jim Costa
So that’s Obama 2, Clinton -1.
Obama’s already looking ahead to the fall campaign, but Hillary’s still out there as if the nomination were still seriously up for grabs. I just hope he’s not going to stumble at the finish line. A lot could go wrong for BHO between now and the convention.
You’ve been a Democrat for quite some time, haven’t you.
The slow down on the numbers of supers declaring for Obama is mildly worrying, but I suspect it’s probably just because we are now so close to the end of the Primary season that most of them are deciding they might as well wait it out. There are a bunch of them who are just so afarid of annoying a single constituent that I think they’re holding out hope that HRC will drop out before they have to step out into the sunlight and voice an opinion.
I wonder what happened to Pelosi’s allleged faction of supers who she said would all declare as soon as one or the other had clinched a majority of PD’s.
DtC to be fair, it isn’t clear that he has yet while the outcome of MI and FL is still indeterminate. Under several compromise scenarios he still needs a few more to cinch it, even though he has under current standings.
The Pelosi gang may be waiting for that determination.
