As I never worked there, I’ll answer for my family, non-dopers
–Wife still works retail, at the craft store chain Michaels. She seems to enjoy what some would term dead-end jobs. (“There’s a destiny that shapes our ends” I say, patting her end-- I mean “behind”.)
–Daughter’s going to school for the teaching degree to which she always aspired (and making straight A’s. I’m proud of her!)
–Son’s held a long succession of low skill jobs. Could go back and work his way up to McD mgr, but does not want to do so.
I quit to go work for a local Fish and Chips restaurant. A small chain here in the valley, 3 restuarants. They treated me better, and I worked for them into college.
I worked there for 2 years during high school. I was “laid off” officially, but the real reason was because I got caught giving away food to a security guard.
I’m a paralegal at a white collar criminal defense firm these days.
I worked there for a couple of years when I was in high school. I quit when I moved away to college, where I got a really cushy job from the university as a “computer lab monitor” - minimum wage to simply be a warm body sitting in the lab.
I quit to go write for my college’s newspaper. I got paid less for it, since I was paid per inch and wrote only weekly, but the job was cooler, satisfying, challenging, and far better-looking on my resume.
I worked at Mickey D’s for a while when I was in college. I needed the money. I quit when I had enough money to get me through the year, plus enough left over to buy an electric guitar (which I still have).
I am now an electrical engineer / software engineer. I design industrial control equipment for a living.
