How much to work fulltime at a McDonald's

…forty hours a week. You can name your salary BUT no one–not even your family–can know what you’re earning; they will simply assume you’re working a low status job for the usual low pay. And if anyone asks you where you work, you must state simply that you work at a McDonald’s cooking French Fries or whatever.

Suspend your disbelief and seriously ponder the question.

My current price roughly $500K/yr.

I wouldn’t work there. I worked fast food jobs when I was younger, and I swore when I quit I would never go back. They treat you like crap, you get no respect from your “manager”, who is generally a loser with a bad tie thinking he’s cool cause he has the blue shirt with a fancy M on the pocket. No amount of money would allow me to put up with the disrespect I was shown by supervisors at those places. Oh who am I kidding, I’d be bought off for say, 750 K. But I wouldn’t like it dammit.

Wow, appearantly I have some issues with past jobs.
Sorry to be such a dick in a little MPSIMS thread Capt.

It isn’t a question of money. I’m not sure there is an amount of money that would cause me to work fast food again. I swore when I left that the only way I would go back is if my children were starving. Not if I was starving–not dire enough circumstances. But I would work there again if it was the only way I could feed my children. If I had to pick an amount to convince me to go back, I’m not sure I could do it but it would definitely be at least a seven-figure salary.

That pretty much sums up what I was trying to say.

Uh … help me out here, I’m a foreigner … are you guys saying $500K, as in $500,000? Hell! Where I sign up?

Oh another condition to add: You can’t ask for a huge salary and quit in some short amount of time. McDonald’s is your career until you reach 65.

Yup, I’m talking US dollars.

Half a million a year for working at a McDonald’s ?

What the hell am I wasting my time here for.
I find it ever so slightly hard to believe. You’re talking about a submanagement position?

Well, I guess I’m bought easily. I pull 45-50 hours a week, and I’m only bringing in $9 an hour. After taxes and crap, I’m probably grossing around $14,000 a year. But then, I’m one of those loser managers with the fancy M on the pocket that Blur was refering to…
Course, without a college degree, what can I honestly expect? After I graduate, I’m outta there. Just out of curiousity, what marvelous route have you taken with your life Captain Caustic?

Pammipoo, if your going to college, your not one of the lifers. I didn’t mean to insult you. I’m talking about the people (usually guys from what I’ve seen) who get off on being McManager and think its all that. The ones that quit school to do it. Hopefully you get what I’m talking about. Like I said, appearently I have issues here.

Oh I’m nothing special, and I did a little time at a fast food place in my youth. But to devote 40 hrs a week for the rest of my life to such a low status, low challenge career, well, that would cost ya!

And I’m talking about a regular employee gig. No moving up to Store Manager!

Another McD’s escapee here. I’d have to third what evilbeth said. Of course, it’s not to say that the job is totally unenjoyable; there were days when I actually left not completely disgusted by my workplace. But when I think back on all the long lines, greasy floors, sticky countertops, hot french fry oil and coffee burns, dried condiment scum, occasionally-competent co-workers and managers, rude teenagers, screaming children, oblivious parents, picky-to-the-point-of-being-anal elderly people, creepy drive-thru pick-up artists, and on top of all that, food that I don’t even like and was sick of seeing by day 4… I realize it’d take a hell of a lot to get me back there. Couple that with the fact that it really is hard work, and that the respectability factor of the job is darn near zero, and you’ve got a very tough sell.

That said, seven figure salary, minimum.

I am with Pammipoo.

No offence here guys, but you sure sound like a bunch of elitist snobs. Working at McDonalds is a respectable honest way to make a living.

Think data processing is glamorous?

Or a RNA, changing adult diapers in a seniors home?

Or a tire technician, changing transport truck tires in the rain on the side of the highway at midnight?

Or a mechanic, or a teacher, or a salesperson?

Christ, jobs suck, thats why we call the work.

Duh.

kellibelli, I don’t think it’s elitist or snobby to not want to work at McDonald’s. I don’t look down on anyone who works at MickeyD’s but on the same token I have no desire to work there myself.

I don’t think anyone’s arguing that a job at McDonald’s is not a respectable one but we’re pretty much all in agreement that it’s not exactly everyone’s dream position.

As to the OP, $375K should be enough. The reason it would be so high is because you say it would have to be my job until I’m 65.

I’ve already mae my mark in the world, so I’m not too concerned about what other folks think about my job.

No real responsibility.
I enjoy working with young folks.
I could get a Micky Dee’s to run the way I think it should be run.

$45,000 plus my military retirement pay woul keep me comfortable. There would have to be cost of living pay increases since I’d be working there so long.

Hey I juss got a job as a flash designer with a software house and I am getting paid for playing with the computer most of the day.
Its like even if i’m offered a lotta bucks to slave away making chips all day…i’d rather get paid a much much smaller sum to juss play around with the computer.

If the macdonalds management were begging on their knees to have me work there, I would have to ask for A Million Bucks…after all i make great chips

Yes, but, also you can’t hit on nor flirt with the teenage girls! Price just go up?
