I’m taking a Business 201 class and we’re doing a case study of the Ashland Oil spill in January 1988. This is a team project and in order to improve our grade, I would like to find a free copy of Pennsylvania Governor Casey’s statement to the press, made on January 5, 1988.
I’ve googled and googled for it… Closest I can find is a possible excerpt in the Philadelphia Inquirer archives, but I’d have to pay for it. I am in touch with the governor’s office. I’m hoping they have and can fax me a copy for free.
At the risk of seeming just so retro, have you tried the pre-web media? I would think that a review of the Index of Periodic Literature (Reader’s Guide to Periodic Literature?) at the library might turn up a publication that carried the statement and a lot of libraries should have either microfiche or microfilm copies of things like The New York Times or The Wall Street Journal going back that far.
Readers’ Guide to Periodical Literature, aka the green things
New York Times Index is a better bet, it is indexed thoroughly and is widely available.
Those are the red ones.
If the e-mail address in your profile is accurate, it should there. I sent you the text in the body of the e-mail and attached a PDF file in case you need it formatted nicely.
Good luck!
