Fossett makes emergency landing

But he did make it around the world + across the atlantic.
There was a generateor failure so he had to land in Bournemouth instead of Kent.

According to the web site, 26,389.3 total miles.

I heard something on CNN when he took off. They said he made the first non-stop, un-refueled flight around the world. I thought that was Rutan and Yeager in the Voyager?

He made the first SOLO non-stop unrefuled flight around the world.

I don’t understand why you made the crossing of the Alantic a question?

??

He didn’t.

He crossed the Atlantic twice for added distance.

I added the red. He did not use a question mark but the sentence is in the form of a question. Or is the presence of the ‘?’ mark the sole condition to determine a question or interrogatory type statement?

Are you sure you’re not reading ‘he did’ as ‘did he’?

No, a ? is not needed, but the sentence was not meant to be a question.
Maybe this is more clear:

Fossett had to make an emergency landing, but he still made it around the world plus across the Atlantic (a second time)
