Found a good american patriotic song that doesn't glorify war

I’ve always found our National Anthem a bit militaristic. This is a fantastic alternative. What do you guys think?

Don’t like it at all. Can’t say why, exactly, but i like literally all of the “traditional” patriotic American songs better.

What, “America the Beautiful” doesn’t count?

I can’t remember if this song was intended as a joke in the first place, or if it just became one.

Maybe because it sounds like an 80’s power ballad?

Don’t like the militaristic bent of the Star Spangled Banner. Fine, I agree with **appleciders **-- that’s what America the Beautiful is for.

Oh well, i think it’s fantastic. I’d like to find more of his work. He’s unashamed to wear his USA shirt. I wish we would all wear them proudly. And the heroes in heaven in the video is inspiring. We should pause to remember out lost heroes and consider if we are living up to their sacrifice in every decision we make.

Horrible. Horrible metal hair. Horrible music. Horrible lyrics. Horrible performance. Horribly cheesy.

Just…no. Absolutely not.

It’s a badly written song, badly sung.

And the “angels” in the video that made me immediately think of the flying vampire women in Van Helsing didn’t help.

“A mer ah kah”? Sorry, it just doesn’t work.

The third verse is about war heroes.
(but does include the line “Who more than self, their country loved and mercy more than life.” which makes me cry.)

Power and Glory by Phil Ochs.

But that thing in the OP was terrible.

Oh my god. My friend (who’s French and therefore possibly a covert terrorist) found the song mentioned in the OP on the internet awhile ago and showed it to me. We laughed until our stomachs hurt. Occasionally she still sings it at me. I told her she’s just jealous because French people are too busy eating cheese and drinking wine to stand as one.

brb, posting the link to this thread to her Facebook page. Hilarity will soon ensue.

Just listening to him pronounce the country as “a-mer-uh-kuh” drove me nuts.

I have no sound so can’t tell if this is a parody thread … was that Weird Al?

I got though the first 10 seconds of weak droning and gave up.
We don’t need a drone.

Stick with Cohan’s I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy

“Air” does not rhyme with “tear,” even if you sing it in a phony accent to try to fool people. I didn’t need to hear any more.

There’s always “This Land is Your Land.”

I think it’s a joke.

I had to go, but it’s okay.

Now, those are powerful lyrics.

This is my country

Well, it depends on which definition of “tear” you’re using.

As for the song, it’s possibly the worst thing I’ve heard in a decade, if it’s not a parody.
