IT IS A JOKE.
Look at the way he shoves the little black kid’s head out of the way as he walks past him. It’s supposed to be a comedy video, and it succeeds.

My thoughts exactly.
I was, indeed, talking about the third syllable. I usually say it as a short “i,” although most people substitute a schwa, which is fine. He gives it an emphatic “UH,” which is very different from a schwa and sounds bizarre.

The first dozen times I looked at that URL, I read “America West And As One” instead of “America We Stand As One”.
I was all
and thinking this song had some weirdly anachronistic Manifest Destiny theme.

Don’t feel too bad–I still can’t see it in my mind as anything but America Wet Sand Stone!
Oh, man…was that ever awful. So much cheese I’ll be constipated for a week.
The OP’s song is by the former SFX guy for Star Trek: TNG, btw.
Sorry, but IMHO the OP’s song sucks. The problem with “The Star-Spangled Banner” isn’t its warlike tone, for the reasons so well stated by TWDuke, but its wide range - almost an octave and a half! Most people really can’t sing it well, but I still like it.
“America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land” are all good patriotic songs, too. Or try this more recent tune, a country favorite of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOy59EdoN7I
Yeah, I think the problem with the SBB is the melody. The vocal range is rough, but the melody itself, in my opinion, sucks. “America the Beautiful” has my favorite melody of the typical patriotic songs.
In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin’ and some are wonderin’
If this land’s still made for you and me.
Particularly nauseating was the idea that people become angels when they die. Well, not nauseating, just incorrect.
Now that you mention it, Gigi, for the cynical among us, this song seems apropos…
What’s so wrong about militaristic songs?
War may be a necessary evil but presumably you wouldn’t want to “glorify” your country’s destruction of others’ lives and lands.
