"FOUNDATION" (I. Asimov): Who Was JendibaL?

Also, did Asimove explain how names evaolved? For example was “Hari Seldon”= Harry Seldon? “Homir Munn”=Homer Munn?
The way that Seldon appear to his followers (after his death), during those “Seldon Crises”-what was the “simulacrum”?-was it a robot of some kind?

As far as I recall the simulacrum was a holographic projection of a recorded message, or at least that’s how I imagined it. Don’t know about the names though.

I agree as to the holographic image - he recorded them all before he died. Remember when the psychohistorical paths diverged, the image was talking about stuff that never happened, because Seldon hadn’t anticipated something (the rise of the Mule, I think).

As to the names, I think Asimov just wanted to have a relatively subtle way of showing you that this was the distant future, when names have shifted a bit but still retain a ring of familiarity.

I don’t recall there being a Jendibal in the books. Could you please remind me about him?

Stor Gendibal was a Second Foundationer in Foundation’s Edge. He was the representative of the Second Foundation in the debate between that institution, the “First” Foundation (represented by Terminus Mayor Harla Branno) and Gaia (represented by Bliss), in which Golan Trevize was forced to determine which of the three represented the best hope for humanity’s future.

At the end of the book,

Trevize chose Gaia, and Jendibal went back to his life as a Second Foundationer, being led to think he won the debate, so that life would, on the surface, remain pretty much the same while Gaia expanded itself into Galaxia

Asimov had quite the talent for using weird, clunky names for his characters.

Affret Shekt
Bor Alurin
Golan Trevise
Limmar Ponyets
Hober Mallow
Eskel Gorov
Prince Wienis
Bel Riose
Eto Demerzel (R. Daneel Olivaw in disguise)
Ebling Mis

I kinda miss those lame names now that the old master is gone.

I by chance, found a voice recording of Asimov himself, reading the FOUNDATION series. He mentioned Gendibal, whose role i had forgotten!
Was it Seldon’s plan that there be (perceived) conflict between the fisrt and second foundations?
I loved those weird names - Gaal Dornick?
Another question: if you were hitched up toe a brain scan devices, the scan woyuld reveal a “tamper plateau”-supposedly, this was the 2nd Foundation at work-was this real, or another concealment of the plan?
