Four days in Vegas - what do do? What to avoid?

Not at all! And afterwards we’ll put Lion King in the VCR and you kids can watch it in the den in your jammies while we adults go out and get drunk and lose your college trust fund at the tables. Just another night in Vegas.
Otherwise…Elephant Bar (not a real “bar”, but nice, inexpensive restaurant) is in The District, or The Cheesecake Factory, or PF Changs, or we could hit any number of places near UNLV, which is closer to where featherlou will be staying. I’m easy - although that annoying restraining order from Chuckie Cheese might be a hindrance. There is always Hofbrauhaus…I think you can get in there if you are under 21 and it is a hoot - across the street from The Hard Rock. I briefly lived in Munich and the Hofbrauhaus here is pretty damned authentic! Otherwise, throw any other suggestions out there.

Oh, do go see the Penn & Teller magic show and then go see Ave. Q. If only for the sake of telling people you went to Vegas to see a puppet and a magic show.

Oh, and I forgot the place in the tunnel between the MGM parking lot and the casino. They sell slurpee type alcoholic beverages and you can get an optional float of grain alcohol. Just one of those babys will have you feeling good and put you in the mood. Usually my first stop.

Wanted to pull up the most recent Vegas recommendations thread to see if there are any noteworthy updates.

We will be there for a few days in a couple of weeks. Spending one day at the Suncoast (for Tower of Power) and the balance on the strip at the Mirage. My inner party animal may think it wants to hang with the young crowd, but my pudgy exterior and middle aged stamina doesn’t allow for much of that anymore. I can still enjoy the eye candy though :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m here (Vegas) now. If anyone wants me to check anything, I’m your woman!

(I’m not 21, so, see, I can’t suggest any fun stuff).

Get your photo taken with Elvis. This guy, with whom my sisters and I had this photo taken, is such a sweetie!

Along the lines of Danalan’s rec for the off-radar pick, the Valley of Fire is astonishing, at least for someone who grew up in the tame landscape east of the Mississippi. The red sandstone formations are amazing by themselves but when you add in the petroglyphs…holy shit! Awesome beyond belief!

Everyone’s giving you great suggestions. (I heartily second the Red Rocks hike. When we were there last year we hiked up to the top, which may not be an option for you, but still it’s a beautiful area.)

I would say that if you’re only planning on gambling $100 then save your money and spend it on something else. Unless you’d find it fun to drop $100 and say “I gambled in Vegas,” most anything you play isn’t going to pay back unless you get incredibly lucky.

I go to Vegas every few years. I have to swing by ti maintain my no-income-tax-state residency. Best deal in town. I prefer to stay at the Suncoast. You get a lot for your money there.

Otherwise make sure you rent a machine gun, see the Liberace Museum. Years ago, the Crazy Horse had the best girls. I do not know if that is still true. I enjoy the Big Skillet Buffet for a pork-laden breakfast when I am in town.

Hi - original OP returning.

Some things I learned - the premium bars, Voodoo Lounge, Ghost Bar, etc. are all hype and not that great. It was like a frat party - music so loud you couldn’t talk to anybody and a bunch of people standing trying to look cool. More than half the tables were reserved so you had no choice but to stand.

The Rum Jungle bar in the Mandalay was really cool - we went during the day so the place was pretty quiet. The Mandalay was the only place that we found that we could sit at a table and talk. It was a closed Sushi bar but tables surrounding it were accessible.

We went to the Crazy Horse (II?) and the girls were pretty. Our wives liked it too.
