Four Secret Service employees placed on leave for accepting gifts from men posing as federal agents

This sounds like a wild story. I wonder what these guys were hoping to achieve?

The two men — Arian Taherzadeh, 40, and Haider Ali, 36 — were taken into custody as more than a dozen FBI agents charged into a luxury apartment building in Southeast Washington on Wednesday evening.

Prosecutors said four Secret Service employees were placed on leave earlier this week as part of the investigation.

This part seems very relevant

“Prosecutors say the men had also set up surveillance in the building and had been telling residents there that they could access any of their cellphones at any time. The residents also told investigators they believed the men had access to their personal information.”

Seems they wanted the inside scoop on movements and communications of Secret Service employees. Disturbing and scary. And what were the Secret Service agents thinking ?!

With the Secret Service, the first thing you think of is Presidential security and that makes it look like this was an assassination plot.

But the Secret Service also investigates other crimes. Maybe these were counterfeiters trying to bribe their way out of an investigation.

There’s already a lengthier thread on this over in IMHO.

Sorry, I didn’t see the other thread.

Well, yours was first.

Oh, well I guess that does help explain things.
