Well…
Presumably, kool-aid is food. Food, generally, spoils after many years. Even that which is packaged to prevent spoiling, still can undergo chemical reactions which ruin its taste after a long period of time.
So there are at least two things that could have possibly gone wrong with it right there.
FTR I haven’t had a chance to actually make the stuff yet, sorry to not have reported in yet.

Just use hot water to make it. In fact, I find that using hot water to make regular Kool Aid is best, because it disolves better. Then just put it in the fridge for a few hours.
