Fox laughed out of court

"The judge said, “Of course, it is ironic that a media company that should be fighting for the First Amendment is trying to undermine it.”

New York Times

Looks like Fox proceeded with the law suit only because of O’Reilly’s insistence.
The New Yorker

What a pompous ass.

Hinten, in future you might want to do a search before opening a thread. In this case, you would find that your topic is already the subject of at least two or three ongoing discussions on this board.

It just saves bandwidth.

How 'bout a linky mehdno?

How 'bout a linky mhendo?

This is so last week.

But is it fair and balanced?

I always apply “the DDR Principle”.

“The whut?”, I hear you say. DDR is of course short for Deutsche Demokratische Republik, perhaps better known as former East-Germany.

The principle goes as follows: if an entity has in its official name -or associated slogans- a certain characteristic that would normally be taken for granted even when it weren’t explicitly mentioned, said entity is probably lying their asses off.

So, the DDR wasn’t very democratic, and it stands to reason that Fox News probably isn’t very fair and balanced. The fact that they trademarked three completely normal English words in order to demonstrate the contrary, seals the deal for me.

But…but…this is a trivia/general knowledge site, and its slogan is “fighting ignorance since 1973”.

Here ya go.

Coldy, i have always thought of that at the Cambodia Principle, because under Pol Pot the country was known as the Democratic Republic of Kampuchea.

Well, obviously we need to be very clear, for the terminally stupid reading the site.

[sub]Like me, for not seeing that one coming a mile away…[/sub]:smack:

On the contrary, dear Coldfire. Because we mention “ignorance” in our tagline, we therefore couldn’t possibly be associated with it in any other way.

OK, so it’s a bit lame, but I owe you at least one.

Thanks much.

I was wondering where they all were, I couldn’t believe that I should be first with posting this story.

Fox has dropped the suit. Pretty pathetic mealy-mouthed statement from the Fox rep.

You know, speaking of DDR, “Dance Dance Revolution” mentions dancing twice in its title, and it isn’t much like dancing at all.

Mr2001,

At least it has the ‘revolt’ part right. After watching my 325 pound friend Naco play DDR…well, it was revolting.

It’s not?! You mean, my plan to save money on dancing lessons by playing a lot of Dance Dance Revolution won’t work? DAMMIT!

If you can get your dance partner to hold up arrow flash cards, you should still be good to go!
