Fox "news" and Christianity

Ok, we all know the Fox “News” channel is full of shit. Take your pick of reasons, We all watched as they crowded as many flags into the screen while we invaded Iraq. We saw their opinion laden news with its extreme prejudice. A “fair and balanced” O’Reilly spouts strong conservative ideas.

This Sunday Fox is showing a special titled “Who is Jesus?” that features host Jon Scott on location in Israel.

Why does this bother me more than all the biased, opinion filled, flag waving news? After all, it doesn’t even have to do with the news, it isn’t using Jesus in any part of its news broadcasting and no real current news besides a blockbuster hit

I’ll tell you why. Fox, a news channel devoted to factual news reporting (in theory), now is taking a ride on “The Passion’s” coattails to whore out Jesus ©hrist for ratings. If the christian channel wants to do something like that, fine. If for some reason MTV decided it wanted to do something like this, fine. But Fox News is supposed to be a NEWS channel. Any specials should relate somewhat to today’s news, but even if it doesn’t it should keep its cameras away from religion in a non reporting format. Fox’s special on Jesus suggests, right or wrong (though sadly I assume “right”), that Fox is biased to Christianity, bringing all of its news reporting into question.

When it comes to Fox News, I just ask myself “what would Jesus watch?” Then I put in the Matrix. I’ll bet Jesus would be blown away by the Matrix.

They can get an extra C-note for his momma! She’s a virgin!

Fox News: “We exploit, you deride.”

Maybe they only just heard about it, and think it’s a breaking story.

OMG Fox News has poopy pants!

I’d be one of the last ones to come to Fox News’ defence. But is anyone aware that CNN did a Jesus special too?

Well, “CNN” is how you spell the name of the promised land minus vowels…

What is up with Jesus lately? Is he making a comeback? First there’s all that fooferaw about ‘The Passion’, then Fox and CNN jump on the bandwagon, and CBS (I think it was) had some kind of an execrable drama the other night (Sunday, I think it was) about a Blonde Jesus. Luckily I was falling asleep at the time, so I didn’t have to turn it off.

Good God, enough with the Lord of All Media already – it’s making me agnostic!

That’s a very astute observation, Cervaise. I am duly impressed.

Well, guess my anger was misguided, the entire American media has cashed in on this (un)Godly fad.

And it has become prevalent due to first our President declaring himself the sword of God, then a whole bunch of soldiers died in martyrdom for this dick waving, then lastly a blockbuster movie came out (complete with authorized merchandise that hel out the economy). All the while the media goes along with it because the American public is entertained by it more than drab stock reports (when I say entertained I don’t mean that they’re having a great time, just that they find it to be something they can all rally around and… well… feel all happy about themselves and the grand ol’ Red White and Blue).

phew.

Well, I went off topic some, not sure what is less related so I’ll just post it.

And that Time and Newsweek have him on the cover at least once a year?

It sells.

You obviously didn’t see the '04 Comeback Special. He’d gotten kinda fat–I anticipate a great Fat Jesus vs. Thin Jesus controversy–but he put on the sequined jumpsuit and belted out the tunes and the ladies still went crazy…

Didn’t Peter Jennings do a news story about the latest “Sinners Left Behind” series by Tim Lahaye and the other dude?

The big story is that Jesus Comes Again in the latest book and GASP…people are upset because /whiny voice/ that’s not how it is in the Bible! \whiny voice\

Gawd people! It’s a FICTIONAL BOOK. Chill.
Umm…sorry for the hijack.

ABC has a “Jesus and Paul” special coming down the pike, too. So it’s not just Fox.

As for why, I’d wager it’s one part “Passion,” and one part Easter. It’s not just eggs and rabbits, y’know…

Thanks a lot…

I almost spit pink lemonade all over my keyboard.

. . . Then, of course, there’s the new sitcom Everybody Loves Jesus; TLC’s Trading Saviours; the HBO series Jesus Christ!; and Bravo’s makeover hit Christian Eye for the Heathen Guy . . .

I’m looking forward to Fox’s American Messiah.

…and on MTV next season, Real World: The Vatican

Bugger. They’re insidious, aren’t they?

Next thing you know, I won’t even be able to attend a proper exorcism without it being all “Jesus this” and “Jesus that.”

I’m gonna stay home and eat worms, dammit.
