Fox News' Conservative Daily Show: The 1/2 Hour News Hour

I haven’t watched th show, but I did look at that skit. Not very good, especially with the laugh track, but not too bad-- I chuckled a few times. The Coulter bit at the end was definitely her making light of her own writings. I thought that was the funnies part.

Any chance for Coulter to get to say her, “Invade their countries…” line is cause for celebration. Basically because it’s just the most goading thing you can say to a flaming liberal. And because there’s a bit if truth to it.

But anyway, it was pretty shaky. Most of the jokes weren’t great, but there were a couple decent lines.

Personally, I don’t think The Daily Show has ever been funny with Stewart. While Kilborn had a smarmy, faux-sincerity that perfectly fit making fun of the Infotainment industrial complex (which is what TDS started out as), Stewart’s ‘ah-shucks’, nice-guy, milquetoast-ism makes any true biting political satire completely impotent.

And like it or not, TDS does have a liberal bent to it. Its certainly not the thrust of every joke, but when they do do an ad hominem attack more often than not it will be about a Republican. And that annoys me. Jon Stewart can just say something nasty about Rumsfeld and he’s still perceived as ‘Mr. nice guy’, but if he does the same to Hillary he’s always quick to point out that its just a joke.

Daily Show comparisons aside, there are plenty of left-wing sacred cows that deserve slaughtering, and I’d love to see some show, any show, up to the task.

BTW, did anyone else notice Manny Coto’s name in the credits? Is this the former Enterprise show runner? The IMDB’s entry for HHNH is incomplete (and screwed up).

Colour me unamused by those clips. Mostly. The jokes were leaden and predictable.

The Daily Show does have a liberal bent; no one is saying there’s anything wrong with that. The point is is that The Daily Show is actually funny, while The Half-Hour Comedy Hour is predictable, stale and mean. Political humor without a slant probably isn’t political humor; what’s important is that it’s done well. Fox’s new show doesn’t manage that.

I don’t know what you’re talking about where you say that Jon Stewart attacks Hillary Clinton “he’s always quick to point out that its just a joke.” I’ve watched The Daily Show a lot and have often seen him go after Senator Clinton, but I’ve never seen him amend and defuse the attack with a “Just kidding!” Have you ever watched the show? Do you have any clips? I strongly suspect you don’t.

What “left-wing sacred cows” are you so eager to see slaughtered? And what makes you think Jon Stewart ignores those? That’s simply not true. Jon Stewart goes after everyone; that’s why he’s funny.

Damn liberals!

Actually, I took that as a validation of the review. It’s not a common or popular opinion, but I think Stewart is the worst thing about The Daily Show (at least in his role as anchor – he may have a good influence behind the scenes). The correspondents are what make the show worthwhile.

Probably. He’s a producer on “24” and it’s been noted that he leans heavily to the conservative side politically.

Hi, I’m your evil twin from the wacky everything-is-opposite alternate universe. I love Stewart (with the exception of a few of the lame impression things he tosses in… like the thing where he makes that weird sound and adjusts his tie…) and find that he makes it worth sitting through the usually-irritating correspondents.

Hi, Bizarro Rodgers!

hi! Btw, did you know that in my universe, they do this: 3. Bye Rodgers!

I caught the second installment tonight. It at least didn’t club viewers over the head with partisanship; I think it made it through the entire episode without using the word “liberal” once! But it was so lame. I can’t say if it was lamer than the first installment, because I saw only clips of that one.

I have a couple of questions:

I was unable to watch it last night… And a search of Youtube isn’t showing me much. Anyone know where there is a link to either the full episode or to clips?

I watched about 10 minutes of it last night. That was all I could endure.

They were “interviewing” an expert on recess about why things like dodge ball, tag, and even running, were being banned from recess.

It was like one of those glurgey emails that get circulated but in skit form.

I did find one comment amusing. The guest asked the female host if she had any children, which she did not, the the male host made a throw away comment about how that was a sensitive subject. The way he did it was great.

Aw, you missed their witty segment on Muslim terrorists!
