Fox News show mocks soldiers in Afghanistan...

That coming from you is a compliment. And I thought you, for one, would be the last one to defend someone mocking soldiers.

I think that’s a different argument. The show in question (The Half Hour News Hour, I think it’s called) is presented as a comedy show, even though it’s on a news network. Not that the show is funny, but there you have it.

I just see this as a free speech thing. He has a right to spout offensive jokes, and **Dio **has a right to Pit him. I just don’t see the point. I mean, I don’t understand why the conversation regarding this issue isn’t as follows:

  • Did you hear that Greg Gutfeld slagged off the Canadian military?
  • No. Who the fuck is Greg Gutfeld?
  • He’s on Fox news at 3:00 AM.
  • Oh. … Say, what do you think about Chinese food for lunch today?
When all is done and said, it’s not like this is the most egregious insult anybody has ever floated over the air waves. And I wouldn’t want to be accused of trying to stifle anybody’s opinion … no matter what it is, or where they said it – that’s the Right’s job.

Are Canadians really upset by what some nobody on TV at 3:00 AM says about their military? Really?

HHNH was canceled after like four episodes. This show is called Redeye.

It also shows an inability to grasp and perform comedic nuance.

Now that WAS funny.

Oh well … Same Shit, Different Name

Then they should just build a no access super-highway with the entrance in Germany and the exit in <ahem> France. Problem solved.

They oughta call it Browneye.

Wait, is that because the show is sh*t, or because they are doing a heckuva job with comedy?

Oops! got interrupted while posting.

Posts like this are why you are my absolute favorite poster in the pit. Every damn one of your pit posts cracks me up. Well done, again.

You’re too kind. And as my fan base recently contracted by one, I am grateful to again be breaking even.

Watching the clip, the guy comes across as an even bigger douchebag, with that dick-holding “Canadians should just be grateful they have us to hide behind!” swagger. What a total asshole.

Lousy timing. Canadian soldiers are presently fighting in one of the most violent regions, and the clip of Gutfeld’s aired right after four more Canadian soldiers were killed in action. So yeah, plenty of people are pissed.

It’s because the guy is an asshole. The nether eye? The eye that don’t wink, but only stinks? You know, the browneye?

I’m not; I’ve heard much worse mockery in the past. I wouldn’t even have heard of this if it hadn’t made the news, and when I heard about it, my reaction was “that’s Fox News for you.”

The network was glutted with thousands of emails and phone calls complaing, so I guess they did. It’s more than just this one guy saying it, it’s Fox News saying it. If an obscure columnist in the NY Times were to call US soldiers “baby killers,” do you think conservatives (not mention Fox News) would blow it off because the particular writer was a nobody?

If you’re just a blogger, it doesn’t matter. If you’re the host of a network news show, then you’re a voice for that network.

Well, I’m not. I do think the guy is a complete moron and that what he said is offensive. But since he’s utterly inconsequential I can’t say as that I’m upset about it.

But it’s worth understanding that this guy’s (see, I can’t even remember his name without scrolling down and I’m not about to go to the effort) attitude is illustrative of a sentiment that some Canadians see as widespread among Americans. That is, a significant number of Canadians are convinced that many Americans are arrogant boastful pricks who are utterly ignorant and unappreciative of any of the efforts we make to assist the US internationally. This has an impact on popular political support for the mission in Afghanistan - why should we send our troops over to fight and die only to have their efforts ignored or ridiculed?

The Canadian media has picked up the story. Canadians reading the transcript of viewing the clip won’t be focusing on the fact that it’s a 3am filler show. They’ll just be hearing a tasteless stupid joke immediately after hearing a story about more casualties in Afghanistan.

Anyways, I would be highly amused if a bunch of burly Princess Patricias (see, even our unit names are all girly) show up at this guy’s Edmonton show wearing white capri pants.

A significant number of Americans are convinced of that, too.

We’re also overweight.
