Frailty Questions and Spoilers

[sub]Good ol’ clipboard…[/sub]

OK, I just watched Failty again before returning the DVD, so I could bone up before posting this. Spoilers coming, and I’m not using the Spoiler tag b/c you’ve been warned:

So, God really was ordering Adam and his Dad to kill Demons.

Most of the scenes inof visions and flashbacks can be chalked up to insanity. The flashback scenes of the Nurse and the old man Pedophile could be chalked up to Adam’s (Matthew McConaughey) insanity. “I saw it too Daddy!” There no reason the viewer should believe that the Dad saw those same visions, so we could just be looking at Adam thinking he saw stuff.

But: what about Agent Doyle (Powers Boothe) killing his Mother? At one point the agent even says “How did you know!!!” - and then you see the flashback scene in which he kills his Mother. That scene led me to believe that God was, indeed, ordering them to kill demons. How else would Adam know about it?

If you watch it again with that in mind, it makes perfect sense. If you watch it with the fact that they’re crazy and not being ordered by God in mind, all the pieces don’t fit. I really think Paxton was trying to say that they were ordered by God to murder sinning demons.

That was one of the best things about Frailty for me… it really takes the standard ideal of good and evil and flips it on its head. I hated what Paxton (“Dad”) was doing to his kids, but the conclusion of the film really makes you think twice.

Very cool movie… I was quite impressed.

I was in utter awe of that film. It seemed so black and white at first, and then the good guy was the bad guy was the good guy!!! WTF?!? Brilliant filmmaking.
Yes. I think Adam and the father were the “good guys” when all the cards were out on the table.

I didn’t think the movie made it clear that God was actually involved, but I think we were supposed to infer that some aspects of the ‘demon’-hunting story was true.
