I remember reading that Francis Bellamy’s family sued the US governmnet concerning their dissatisfaction with how the pledge, that Bellamy wrote, had been changed and used. Is there any website or information link to find out more about this lawsuit?
Maybe not…
Well, if you do find some info, let us know what they say. Sounds interesting.
I know that Bellamy objected to the first change in the pledge (changing “pledge allegiance to my flag” to “pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America”) and that his granddaughter objected to the second change (adding "under God), but I haven’t found any lawsuits by them.
As a fun fact, New York City had its own flag pledge for public schools before Bellamy wrote his. It was “We give our Heads and our Hearts to God and our Country. One Country. One Language. One Flag.”
