I, like many others, sometimes peruse the board at work. Nobody seems to mind, but they might if they happen to look over my shoulder and see a dozen sex-related titles up on the screen. One or two I can explain… but come on, it’s not like the Dope is the only place on the Internet to go for titillation.
Are you saying that the SDMB should censor shit because your bosses might have a problem with stuff you peruse on the net? Possibly because it’s unrelated to work?

How many sex threads does one forum need? Some of y’all may have a different opinion than I do, but I’m the moderator. The two I closed will remain closed; I’ll close others on a case by case basis as I deem it necessary.

Frank, I’m sincerely curious here. What aspect of the board are you trying to preserve or protect by closing these threads? How is the board or its users being negatively impacted by them?
With all due respect, and I mean that, when did you become the arbitrator of what we could and couldn’t post? As long as the threads aren’t in violation of board laws, I don’t see what the problem is…
I repeat: if you want a rule about sex threads, then MAKE ONE and POST IT! Stop making them up as you go at the capricious will of the moderators.

I normally have no beef with the mods, but this is rather strange. Does this mean that some GD threads will be closed also? Out of the first 10 threads on the GD page right now, 4 are about muslims and 3 about christianity. And that’s not even counting the rest of the page. If the problem is numerous threads that all relate in someway to a larger subject then I would think it would apply there as well.
Yes of course it is your call, but this decision does seem odd.
Judging by the ratio of people who posted about power imbalances being a factor in their enjoyment of sex I’m thinking your post just moistened/stiffened a few people here, you big strong authoritarian you.

I’m going to side with the majority. Let’s not pretend this isn’t morality policing at play here. If there were X number of threads about Survivor, I doubt a random one or two would be closed.

It’s a phase, you know it, you said it in the thread. Just let it go, there was nothing wrong. If the communitity didn’t want the threads they wouldn’t start them and noone would reply.

Well, having been here a long time, I think it will play out like this: Frank, who is getting castigated, and for good reason, IMO, finally might back off a bit, and an admin (Dex or Tuba) will step in and say “Come on you all, yes we fight ignorance, but we don’t need a sex thread about (insert your favorite fetish here) every five minutes, blah blah…Have some decorum.”
And the board will plod on…
How many *moderators *does one forum need? Seems like there’s one too many in that one.
