Franken pwns Focus on the Family.

I hate using “pwns”, but it’s so perfect here.

Youtube link.

Not really seeing the pwnage.

I still can’t believe that smug SOB got elected …

Leahy pwns the tool from Focus on the Family too.

Smug SOB is a job requirment.

Being called on lying your ass off is pwnage in my book.

Mine, too.

  • me. Franken rocks…

I don’t see smug there on Mr. Franken’s part. I see some amusement that the witness is playing into the trap he has set. Personally, I would have been very hard pressed not to actually laugh at the guy - big, hearty belly laughs, not just a little smirk.

Not that I’m surprised that there would be a bunch of Franken groupies here, but I think the guy is a prick. If you’re going to be a comedian, be a comedian. If you’re going to be a politician, just be a politician. Don’t try to also be a comedian. You can see Franken at 1:09, after he says “And it actually doesn’t say what you said it says,” take a long pause for laughter (which he assumed would happen, but didn’t.) Then he mugs for the camera after saying “it doesn’t” in an infuriatingly smug tone that would make Office Space’s Lumbergh envious. He may be right, politically, but I do not like the way he conducts himself.

That was the pwnage - the bozos that put him in office.

Naw, that’s pretty much pwnage. Some people are holding him to a higher standard because you’re used to seeing him in a “slick” setting. Most senators are even less well-spoken and have worse timing than he does.

Of course, it’s no “on what planet do you spend most of your time”, but it’s pretty good.

Meh, plenty of politicians carry over their former careers in how they act - lawyers, professors, etc. Better a real comedian mix in comedy than the amateurs in Congress who think they’re funny - or smart, for that matter.

I am certainly not a “Franken groupie.” But unless you’re pointlessly partisan, you gotta give him credit for astutely and rightly eviscerating the witness’s position.

He doesn’t do anything of the sort as you describe it. He never even looks in the general direction of the camera, let alone mug for it.

Some guys are too one sided to give credit where it is due. He brought up the point that the guy lied about the study he cited in order to push his own right wing agenda. But our rightys can not get past Franken leaning to the left.
Ever wonder why it is so hard to take the rightys seriously? How can his argument be any good, he used to be a comedian?
He graduated cum laude from Harvard. Yep he is a left wing dummy.

I’ve never liked Al Franken as a comedian. I can’t get over one Saturday Night Live where he stuck live cockroaches on stickpins during Weekend Update. Spearing worms on fishhooks when you plan to eat the fish you catch is one thing. Torturing live insects for laughs is disgusting.

Agree with a good deal of what he says. Don’t like him, or perhaps I should say his persona personally.

Yeah, I’m really regretting choosing to vote for an effective representative who voices my opinions and isn’t intimidated by ridiculous conservative claptrap. I feel so bamboozled. I liked his books and I like his legislating. He and Amy Klobuchar make me feel so much better about my state when the republicans are running around making us look moronic.

That makes it even worse. He’s a common, simple-minded entertainer AND an Ivy League elitist.

Franken’s awesome. He basically called out that anti-gay idiot for lying in his written testimony. I love how he squirms in his seat before the clip ends

I’ve seen some of those old SNLs, and it seems to me that Franken’s sketches were mostly bad. It wasn’t humor at all; it was just comedy, (and it wasn’t very good). With a political motivation (which one may agree with or not), he does better, because humor has a different end from comedy.
