Freaks

Everyone loves Freaks but The Terror of Tiny Town gets no respect.

From what I’ve read, Prince Randian (sp?) really could roll his own cigarettes, by himself.

A funny aside: Johnny Eck (the legless guy) had a twin brother, who was born with all his limbs intact.

They used to do a magic show, where the brother would be the magician, then switche places with Johnny when they put him in a box to be sawed in half.

A little person would be in the bottom half. When they cut him in half, both “halves” would get out of the box, and the bottom half would chase Johnny around the stage.

I will say this:

When you’ve got a guy with no limbs coming after you with a knife in his teeth, you’ve really done something wrong.

Unique movie.

One of my favorite movies of all time!!

I would LOVE a woman to ask me to go see “Freaks”!

slight hijack…

I’d nominate *Eraserhead *for that title

Yes; Freaks, Eraserhead, An Andalusian Dog… all good weed movies

Also note that the actors playing Hans and his fiancee Frieda are brother and sister; this, aside from, of course their not being professional actors, will account for their lack of romantic chemistry. It would have be quite difficult to have cast the roles and find similar-size actors.

Good movie - the ending was…odd.

I have to admit, I spent a lot of time wondering about scatalogical aspects of many of the actors.

Bladwin: That’s the scene I was thinking of.

Oh, I loved *Tiny Town. *But I saw it so long ago, all I remember is the sheriff coming into the bar through the bottom half of the doors.

Dude, if a guy took me to see “Freaks” on a date (hell, if a GIRL took me…), they’d be so golden.

If you didn’t, be sure to watch the special features on the DVD. Fascinating.

The ending was edited.

Original ending had the woman and her male accomplice doing a show. He sung in a very high voice. Apparently, after all they showed, implying castration was just too much.

That’s the coolest scene in the movie.

Every. Single. Person I’ve watched my copy with has gone on to buy one of their own.

So, Diane don’t keep us in suspense, what’d you think?

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing it on a big screen, twice. Completely bonkers but excellent.

So ummmmm. . . I really liked it, but I am still trying to decide how I feel about it. On one hand, I think it is commendable that the movie makers put these people in the film and I liked the message - that a person can be beautiful on the outside, but a monster on the inside and visa-versa. But on the other hand, the movie seemed a bit side-showish exploiting and I think the movie makers went back a few steps after making these people seem “normal” then turning them into scary freaks as they crept up on Cleopatra.

Did that make any sense? I am really sleepy.

Ya gotta love Prince Randian (the limbless man) in that scene. It’s almost worthy of a Zen koan.

Browning was a circus person and had worked with some “extraordinary people.” He knew that, after a while, you get used to their differences and start seeing their real selves.

Think of how they made a better living exploiting their differences than they could otherwise, and were surrounded by people who loved them as they were. Schlitzie, one of the microcephalics, was temporarily confined in an institution after his keeper died and almost pined away before he was “rescued” and put back on the road. He missed his friends, his fans, and the life.

Well, a guy has to make a movie that sells, too. And could you blame them?
