Fred Hampton murdered by the US Government?

Was Fred Hampton murdered by US Government as proposed by this link?

I have a hard time believing this is true, but I don’t have any information about this.

Well he was killed by a government official. Was he murdered? We may never know. This link seems less bias than the link you provided, which seems to push the truth and draw conclusions.

OK, we buy the somewhat “legalistic” (as opposed to legal or lawyerlike) explanation that Hampton was shot to death by a government official. The next question is was that shooting in anyway justified. The question after that is whether the government official who did the shooting was acting within the scope of this office and within his instructions.

Given the level of paranoia about the Black Panthers prevalent at the time, I would not be suppressed if J. Edgar’s FBI and Mayor Daley’s Chicago PD were looking for an excuse to shoot up the place if there were not explicit instructions to do so. This is not to say that Panther rhetoric, if not action, didn’t give some credibility to the general hysteria. If you read J. Edgar’s speeches during this period you would think he was re-living Ante Turner’s Rebellion. Neither Hoover nor Daley had very much tolerance for departure from the status quo and were perfectly capable of unlawful violence to maintain it.
