That’s a pretty sweet deal. I was already a Prime member since like January or February. I went ahead and signed up anyway, thinking maybe it would extend it a year. Nope, they canceled my current membership, gave me a $30 refund, and signed me for Prime starting yesterday.

MAKE SURE YOU UNCHECK THE BOX THAT AUTOMATICALLY RE-SUBSCRIBES YOU. I once used one of these promotions to get free Amazon Prime for a certain amount of time (I want to say two months), and at the end of that, I found a $79 charge on my card for the next month of Prime service. Thankfully the people at Amazon were very understanding of my situation - it probably helped I was 15 and sounded really freaked out - but it was still a pain to deal with.

Hm, not only do I not remember seeing this option when I signed up but when I go into the “Manage Your Prime Membership” page, which is where the FAQ says I would see information about auto-renewal, there is nothing there. Are you sure the student deal behaves the same way? Does anyone else have this issue?

It is entirely possible that things have changed in the four years since this happened to me. I just wanted to make sure that no one else had the same problem.

Well it’s confusing because the FAQ says that auto-renewal is indeed the default setting when you sign up for a Prime membership, but I’m not seeing anything where it’s supposed to give me that option so I’m wondering if it works differently for this particular deal or I’m having a problem on my end.

Hmmm, at this point it might be a good option to contact Amazon’s tech support.

I saw this on Slickdeals a few mins ago and signed up, texted my boyfriend to tell him. First thing he said was “turn off auto renewal” because he got burned by that once. I also did not see the box to uncheck anywhere?
