Ideally for Windows 2000 or XP. I’m looking for something that has motion detection, can upload images to a web or FTP server in case the intruder walks off with the computer itself (although I suppose could use a script to copy the images somewhere else), and can contact me by SMS or email if a certain threshold of motion detection is passed.
I found Dorgem, but it sounds a bit old-hat with its mention of Video for Windows. But if anyone’s tried it and liked it, I’d give it a go. Any other suggestions?
One thing it does that many of the other free offerings don’t is to constantly record to a buffer, then when motion is detected, it writes the buffer to the start of the video file - the upshot of this is that your recorded video contains the whole of the event, from before the time any motion occurred. Many of the others have a short recording startup delay and this can result in crucial frames being lost, especially if the subject is moving fairly quickly.
The other thing it does which is cool is to allow you to mask off areas of the view in which you do not wish to detect motion (say, if there’s a pot plant by the door that keeps swaying in the breeze.)
No, no, that sounds very good. As I said, maybe I could just send the images/clips somewhere else automatically with a script. Thanks for the suggestion.
