Free sites to download Mac software

Well my subject probably covers what I want to know but ot be more specific, I just programs that I can download for free. I know there is tons of sites you can download PC stuff but nothing I can find where you can get free Mac stuff (mac stuff is so freakin’ expensive). So any mac users out there that can help me that would be greatly appreciated.

You mean warez?

You do realize that they’re illegal, and that this thread won’t last very long as it’s soliciting information on performing illegal activities?

On the chance you’re talking about legit software, you can find plenty of freeware applications at VersionTracker.com.

The original and reliable warehouse of Macintosh freeware and shareware was and still is:

The Info-Mac Archives

(MIT’s mirror)

Not gonna help you find warez, but here’s some free/share/demoware sites:

MacUpdate
VersionTracker
Download.com

Settle down AudreyK! I’m betting PN wasn’t expecting the spanish inquisition.

fileplanet has some Mac stuff… search for “mac” and you’ll find a bunch.

Also, a bunch of the projects at freshmeat get cross-compiled into Mac format. (Open src is kewl d00d).

I’d also search for Mac stuff on any popular Windows site. Many of these have started supplying Linux games/apps, and Macs are probably next in popularity.

Dunno, Nanoda. That part about the Mac software being expensive made me suspicious. You wouldn’t care about the price of software if you were thinking only of legit freeware or shareware.

I also thought the “tons of sites” for PCs was referring to the plentitude of PC warez sites.

Apologies if I’m wrong, but I did not get the impression the OP meant legitimately acquired software.

I like to see the good in people. Sometimes it turns out just to be a recently consumed candy bar, but still.

If you’re running MacOS X, install the XFree86 environment + Fink + Fink Commander and have at the world of free open-source Unix apps.

Another decent site is Applelinks.

And of course, Perversiontracker. All kinds of useless software, but a lot of it’s free!

One other thing, Nanoda– I’m not Spanish, I’m Japanese.

zdnet software search has a option to only return mac software.

I was referring to the freeware and shareware. I was also referring to the price of MAC stuff as being outrageous and that is all, was not asking for anyone do be doing any illegal activities. I will check out all these sites. I am sorry I wasn’t able to get on the site for sometime so this is the first time in a bit that I was able to reply to you all. If anyone kows of any others it would be greatly appreciated…also was noticing how easy it is to pick up anything PC…just an observation.

You know, when you decide you need some “high end” Mac software, the place to find it is eBay. I buy older versions of Mac software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, Dreamweaver) and then upgrade them. All perfectly legal, all registered with Adobe and Macromedia.

For instance, I paid about $125 for a full version of Photoshop on eBay. The circumstances were a little unusual (even for eBay) but it was a stroke of good luck, and all legal with Adobe. (Photoshop usually sells for $600.) I got Illustrator for about a $100 (full price is about $400). My latest acquisition is InDesign—I just got registerable version of Indesign 1.5 for $100 on eBay. I will upgrade to version 2 for an additional $150. That’s $250 for a $700 program! I’d never fork out full price for any of these programs. I’m too poor—too cheap. But here I am, with a lot of legally acquired high-end programs, all made possible through eBay.
