Free steaks at Outback

Don’t like Outbacks that much…too much seasoning. But I have friends. Alas, they only have the coupon left. :frowning:

Tanstaafs

Got my coupon this past Tuesday, went today and tried the new wood-fire steak. Fortunately, Sophie had one of the original steaks so I could compare, and I gotta say: I preferred the wood-fired steak.

That’s weird - when I tried to sign up last month, I got the “Only one coupon per household” error, but I just got the gift card in the mail too. So either the website popped up the error message erroneously, or I’ve got a steak benefactor/stalker somewhere.

Tried to sign up last month and was informed I was 90 minutes too early for my timezone. When time was up, I was informed all free steaks were gone. So somehow in the five seconds when the coupons became available on the west coast, they were all gone already.

Did anyone on the west coast ever get a coupon?

I don’t think they sold out on the west coast in that time. I think each store had a certain amount of coupons to give away, so apparently your local store was out when you got there. (I seem to recall having to select my local location before signing up for the freebie.)

It is seasoned? Because all the clone recipes I’ve ever found act as if all you use is steak, salt, and pepper. But they also say to not cook past medium-rare. So I’d always assumed they seasoned medium and higher due to the loss of flavor inherent in longer cooking times, but left the others alone.

Also, the closest Outbacks are all an hour or more away, so I’m not sure if I should bother trying. How long do you have to use them?

What did the envelope look like? Just so I can keep an eye out.

It was large post-card sized, folded over with the free steak coupon attached to it (on the inside of the fold, of course). The card extolled the virtues of their wood-fire cooking process.

Ah, shoot.

The fact that this thread is bumped again made me think that they started offering more free steaks. I missed the cut on getting one the first time.

You didn’t miss anything. Had I managed to grab a free coupon I would have used it. Been to Outback twice in 10 years. The first time to tried it; wasn’t impressed. The second time to see if they had improved; nope.

So not shedding a tear I missed out on a freebie.

I used to like Outback. For years I got consistently good food there. Then something happened and the quality of the meals started going downhill so we stopped going. I would have tried a freebie to see if I liked it again, though.

At this point you couldn’t pay me to eat at Outback. I went when it was a newer chain and things were pretty good (even a mahi-mahi I ordered once was fantastic). But a few years back I got a $50 gift card as an X-mas bonus (yes, it was a pretty poor year), so I took my wife and sister-in-law out. The steak salad I got was the worst ever. Over-dressed, wilted and the steak itself was awful.

There are too many good local restaurants around here to bother with crappy chains anymore. And don’t get me started on Red Lobster…

Thank you, JohnT! I received the free steak letter earlier this week.
