My wife and I have both received unexpected shipments from our PPO Medicare plan. packed and shipped from CVS pharmacies.
The boxes contain face masks, hand sanitizer(several bottles), band aids, a digital fever thermometer, toothbrush and paste, a pill organizer as well as several other items.
I guess they feel prevention is cheaper than a cure, which is generally true I’m sure.
Good for them, doing that. Stuff that can help you be just a bit safer during COVID, and just generally useful stuff, too.
OTOH, as someone who works in the industry, I feel compelled to point out that they sent that stuff to you just a couple of weeks before the Annual Enrollment Period begins; I wouldn’t be surprised if the freebies were timed to arrive just before you decide if you want to stick with that Medicare plan for next year, in hopes of making sure that you have a good impression of them.
You are correct. I’d not thought of that . I’m generally pleased with my current plan, though my broker is holding informational meetings in the next two weeks, so perhaps a change may take place. We’re on a PPO, and I like not having to get referrals to see specialists. And of course the monthly premium is a little higher.
United Healthcare Advantage Plan gives me $40 of OTC stuff that I can pick from a catalog, 4 times a year. So $160 a years worth. I like picking stuff I need and it’s a large catalog.
That sounds convenient. We’ve been invited to a plan review by our insurance broker, so perhaps we should go and see what’s new and available. All in all we’re pleased with our current provider.
