As a declared and out there Free Cell addict, I wondered how it was that I hadn’t seen this thread at all. Then I noticed it dated from before I was born.
I started playing long ago. I was not very good at it.
I can’t figure out all the moves before starting.
Several years ago a BIL, who is really good at it, & I started doing it various ways.
See how few cards you can put up before it runs on it’s own, stuff like that.
My best is 2 cards. If I ever find the right game, one card up is possible.
Anyway, that became boring to this anal person so I started doing them in order. Started at number one. Can not advance until I get it worked. I have gotten 3-4 days invested in working one out.
After a bunch, I have a better record I only occasionally need more than 3 tries.
I have a bad continuous score because I have to discard the next game so I can select the one I need so 50% are automatic fails according to Win-7.
IO do not much care because what I am after is keeping it in order.
I am at 16,070 at this time. Except for 11,982 of course.
I work 2 or 5 games a day depending.
It is a part of my life so I do not need to get a life because I have one thankyouverymuch. Bawahahahah

Just started playing this game with my new computer. Currently 175 wins with zero losses. So addictive.
I didn’t know one year olds were allowed to join!
OK I got hooked on freecell when I bought my new computer a year ago.
Now have to play the game several times a day for relaxation.
Have been trying to reach a target - YES - just done it - 2000 games completed, 100% wins. I must be mad (no I’m not a liar).
I won 1,000 game straight and then took Freecell off my computer. Like others I find it relaxing to play a few games. I was embarrassed when I won 1,000 games because I had PLAYED 1,000 games. At the same time I am proud of being so amazingly good at it.
Sure wonder what talent allows one to be so good at Freecell (as are many others here). Or more importantly what that skill is GOOD FOR.
What if we got PAID for using our talent at Freecell : )

You can’t really compare the stats from back then, 2001 was what, before Windows XP, right? Since Windows Vista the version of Freecell you get lets you “undo” indefinitely without counting it as a loss so there’s no excuse for having anything less than 100% wins. NO EXCUSE.
OK, maybe I got your attention, maybe not, but seriously, I don’t lose Freecell games. Apparently I’ve been lucky enough to have never run across an unwinable game. In fact, I challenge myself by maximizing the number of cards left before the last play. My record is 50 (REALLY depends on buried aces), and I’m rarely below 44. That said, when I registered for this site and had to answer the “human verification” question of, “What is the month 2 before June” I had to count it out on my fingers (twice). I’m also the worst speller of the English language I know, and my sense of direction is so bad that I get lost in small walk-in closets. So, go figure.
And just so you know, Peaton, I don’t use undo.

So funny to see other addictives. Actually it’s like with smoking, I want to get over it but with smoking it took me 14 years. I already have been playing Freecell for about 15 years, so perhaps I have played it enough? well not today yet.
I have the old windows version with counting, and only 1 undo. I played the Windows 8 version for a few weeks, but the unlimited undo, and my hating to loose, make it very boring.
If I play relaxed, my average is 84% or lower. But I always want to improve. If I do my best, I can stay on 85%. Somehow my ideal is 87%. I can only reach this if I only play when I’m well rested. My brother has an avarage of almost 100%. But he always plays only 1 at a time. I don’t have that patience. And I like the game too much. About 2 years ago I discovered that I could stay concentrated if only playing 3 in a row per day. I reached a streak of 84. It seemed like magic: I just couldn’t loose. Now that magic has gone. But still this is for me the best strategy to go up: play no more than 3. Only when I loose then I try to play back to 85%. (although I know in my heart that quitting at 67% works better in the long term.
It helps to use the calculator to see ecactly where I am. Although when I’m at 85.4 I want to force myself to 86% (85.5), but that mostly works against me, and I end up frustrated at 85 low or 84% again. I can do this for hours. I don’t dare to tell anybody, except you out there. Well perhaps this writing helps me get over it. I’m male 61 years old, married, no children, work 40 hours per week, in the Netherlands. I haven’t played Freecell in years. I don’t remember there being an option to play games in order, although I am sure it was there. I just played the next game that came up. I don’t remember my stats but I remember being on a flight and having a really long winning streak. Suspecting I could not lose, I lost interest in the game right then and haven’t played since.
And guys, please, it’s ‘lose’ not ‘loose’.
