I’ve had an account with the free web host freei.me for some time. I don’t really use it for much–just a couple of static pages. I pull them up in a browser a couple of times a month to keep it active (they threaten to remove accounts that don’t get any activity in a month.)
This evening I tried to visit their main page (where you would go to sign up with them) and got a placeholder page instead of their homepage. Wondering what was going on, I logged in to their cpanel, which still worked the same as always. You log in with the username Freei_xxxxxxx, where xxxxxxx is your account number.
A minute or two after I logged in I got an email from Securesignup.net thanking me for signing up with them. It told me I could login to their portal with my email address and my Freei.me password, which was in the message in plain text.:eek:
Now, there’s nothing of value associated with that account and I don’t use that password for anything else, so I’m not too concerned about a security breach. I logged in from an iPad, so it’s highly unlikely that I’ve been hit with a key logger or anything.
So, what’s the deal? Has Freei been acquired by Securesignup? Or has someone managed to take over their servers?
