Because it singles her out as a girl. Then again things have changed and we don’t think there is something wrong with having premarital sex anymore. It’s an anachronistic double-standard.

Granted. But it’s a little different when outright murder is the policy of the government, don’t you think? I mean, the point I was trying to make is that if lalenin “hates commies” maybe it should be considered that he came by that attitude honestly, and that the perspective that you gain from actually living under a communist regime might be a little different from the one the rest of us have.
I think the joke went over your head, not mine. There’s nothing funny about calling a woman a whore, neither does getting pregnant make a woman a whore. We cannot infer from Bristol Palin’s pregnancy that she was promiscuous, or that she ever had more than one partner. What we can infer is that she didn’t know how to use birth control. The fact that her ignorance was the result of abstinece only education is the target of the joke, and all the more so that she has apparently decided to become an advocate for the very education policy which got her pregnant.
ETA, I think this wild difference in perception of what should be inferred about a teenage pregnancy might show something about the diffrence between the way liberal and social conservatives see sex. Conservatives can’t see a sexually active, unmarried woman as anything but a whore.
If one calls Bristol a slut for having sex before marriage, but doesn’t also consider Levi a slut, wouldn’t that be sexist?
And whom should the lucky duckies who lived under Somoza, Uguarte, Pinochet, Batista, etc. hate? Us? How about those who died for Ronnie’s Excellent Military Adventure in Grenada?
How about the union organizers given flying lessons over the ocean by the Argentine military junta? Didn’t work out, they couldn’t fly. But, by golly, they kept on trying! Flapped their arms all the way down, they did!
Did Bristol Palin get abstinence only education? Or was she corrupted by the filthy minded liberals in our school system who taught her pre-marital sex was not only acceptable, but a requirement?
Until we know that, we don’t know if she is being a hypocrite in supporting abstinence only education.
Letterman didn’t call anybody a whore. Anyone who thinks he did only thinks so because of their own sexist assumptions.
His joke also included Alex Rodriguez as a sexual partner. Was that sexist? was he calling A-Rod a “whore?”
Beyond that, Letterman’s joke did not attack or demean Bristol for sexual behavior or gender, but, at worst, only riffed on her lack of education about birth control. Even that was only a secondary implicatoon. The main target was Sarah, not Bristol.
There is no equivalence here. You can’t compare a joke about an adult, politically active, unwed, abstinence preaching mother getting pregnant again with calling an 11 year old black girl “ghetto trash” for wearing a peace symbol.

@Maia’s Well: on my part, it was… sorta. I was smirkingly observing that kenner’s "only X days [till she’s legal] was reminiscent of the “only X days” geek meme about the Olsen twins a few years ago. So it’s a sexual joke, but if anything it’s more about the Olsen twins that about Malia, and it’s really, really more about geek fantasms than either.

The joke is essentially, “That Palin girl is such a whore, she got knocked up randomly at a baseball game.”, without the implication of being whore there isn’t a joke. The joke doesn’t center around her getting pregnant it centers around her getting knocked up by A-Rod. The abstinence only stuff isn’t even a part of the equation, that’s just you bringing in your partisan political bias and inserting some nonsense that wasn’t implied.
The joke is about her fucking A-Rod randomly at a baseball game, meaning that she’s such a whore that she can’t even go to a game without getting knocked up.
Well, yes, but the joke is about having sex with her in seven years- and I presume neither Diogenes nor kenner finds her sexually attractive.
