Yeah, yeah, I can just picture it…Unc stretches and yawns, a prelude to suavely slipping his arm around the shoulders of his date…one misstep and BANG! He’s put her eye out with the god damn cufflink! Rest of the evening spent in the Emergency Room…“Uh, can I call you again…Patchy?”
I smacked Francois Mitterand in the back of the head once…
Ha Ha. That’s rich, I’ll say.
(Actually, I thought it showed a quick wit and a wonderful sense of the absurd).
http://www.landsend.com also has a nice selection of French cuff shirts.
Check their “Overstocks” section - sometimes you can get an incredible deal on shirts there.
I’ve also had great luck with Just White Shirts if you’re into buying over the Web.
Thanks for all the shirt tips, gang. I’ve tried Dillards and Macy’s but had no luck. Even the Perry Ellis and Geoffrey Beene displays let me down. I’d completely forgotten about Nordstrom’s (somehow). Now that I know they are, in fact, still out there and available, though, I’ll keep the search going in good confidence.
As to links, I love them. I collect them. My three favorite sets (currently) are a set of gold, working roulette wheels I found in an antique shop a few years ago, a set of sterling door knockers (thin wire frame, very elegant; you don’t even really catch that they’re door knockers until you see the action move), and a set of gold frame, blue enamel inlaid map/compass points my wife picked up for me at Marks and Spencer when she was in London on business.
Thanks again.
Thanks for all the advice folks, but it appears it would be much simpler to just wander around naked. I know I gotta pass on the pirate shirt, though. They never look good without an eyepatch. And eyepatches simply cannot be worn with spectacles.
Here’s a great place I’ve found for cufflinks. http://www.cuffart.com
Check out the “paperweight” cufflinks at the top of this page. http://www.cuffart.com/trayglass.htm Pretty nifty, eh?
I dunno. I have this image of UncleBeer walking up to one of his subordinates at work, coffee mug in hand, and resting his elbow on top of the cubicle wall while calmly saying, “Yeah, Peter, you really need to remember to put the covers on your TP* reports. Also, I need you to come in this weekend so we can wrap some things up. Yeah, great. Terrific.”
FallenAngel, you also may want to check the men’s stores at the various outlet malls around here, like in Casa Grande or that one north of Phoenix on I-17. Also, to further hijack this thread, come join the Phoenix Dopers at our gathering on April 7. (Scroll down in the linked thread)
