French Dopers: Anyone familiar with Troyes?

In planning our summer vacation 2006, I’m trying to decide between some hotels with woefully little data. Although it’s unlikely any Doper would be familiar with this town, I still thought I’d inquire before I roll the dice.

Anyone?

You could try to ask this question on the “Europe” forum of www.fodors.com . The “fodorites” are often surprinsingly aknowledgeable about hotels. However, Troyes isn’t a place where many tourists stay overnight. So, you might not get any answer. Still worth a try, though, IMO.

I searched fodor’s forum (hotel troyes) and found 2 threads asking about hotels in Troyes. One got 5 responses, the other none. So, you maybe you’d get lucky too. You could at least search the thread and read the responses, it might help (for the record, the hotels recommanded in this thread were : “hotel de la poste”, “royal hotel” and “chant des oiseaux”).

Thanks, clairobscur. Hotel de la Poste was one of my choices, only the map of Troyes showed its location as on a possibly busy street corner. From the map, there was no way of telling just how large or noisy these streets were, so I was seeking inside information. I’ll check over at fodors, and I have a thread started at tripadvisor.com, as well.
