Friend back from Europe -- says thanks

And she saw the Chomps De Louise. You know, that big arch thing that Chevy Chase kept driving around in that movie?

This should probably be in MPSIMS, but she used the tips provided by these Dopers in a GQ thread, and she wanted me to say thank you:

She said if she had to do it again (two days in London, two in Paris), she’d skip Paris, unless she was with someone who spoke French. They stayed at St. Julian’s in Sevenoaks and felt very comfortable while in England. Paris was intimidating, and they had some trouble getting around.

Some of the stereotypes she’ll be responsible for spreading throughout Iowa:

  1. There are no fat people in London or Paris. This is because everyone walks everywhere they go.

  2. Everyone drives too fast.

  3. The Eiffel Tower is much bigger than it appears on TV.

  4. The English are very friendly, and everyone calls you “luv”.

She says St. Paul’s is beautiful, the countryside is beautifully green for December, and someone called a Beefeater was in charge of the tour at the Tower of London.

She brought me back a coffee mug with Henry VIII and his wives pictured on it, and a shot glass from Paris.

She had a great time, and the help you guys provided made a big difference in her comfort level.

The Eiffel Tower can indeed be seen from all over Paris.
You are tempted to try to reach it by “just driving toward it”, but that way lies madness!

just the idea that someone could form stereotypes after two days spent in a country is staggering. this is minus down time for jet lag and shopping for knick-knacks, right?

your friend must be frightfully astute–think of how informed she’d be after a week!

Off to MPSIMS.

Don’t worry, Auntie. The GQers will still see it, and I’m sure they appreciate your thanks for their help.
