It’s more of a he wants it to sound like he is doing the jail thing as a martyr, but it’s more of he knows he’ll be there because, he didn’t pay support. Let him enjoy the prison time, some people have a self delusional mentality, that can’t recognise their own bull shit. The world will continue and never notice, because he is full of shit.
When I see, or hear of, these protests, I often wonder what actions these people have taken before resorting to a public protest. I think protesting should be the last resort, not the first. There are organizations that are addressing the unfair treatment of parents (usually men) in custody hearings. If your friend is truly interested in doing something positive he should join one of thse groups and work w/ them toward instituting change, not go off on his own on some cockamamie, doomed to failure, hunger strike.
And what’s kind of funny is at the bottom of the screen, right below this post, I see a list of four of them. That actually never occurred to me.
I tend to assume my friends (and for the most part co-workers) are smart. This guy has always been VERY bright, in every way. And he’s also very KIND…so when he came up with what looked to me like a nutty plan, I tended to think **I ** was the nut and that maybe I should re-consider my point of view.
Here’s to a little less self-doubt.
According to the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act of 1940 civil proceedings (including divorce) against active-duty military must be stayed until they return. IANAL, but it would seem that a change in child custody should only last until the servicemember returns home and then a family court would need to make a more permanent ruling.
So to sum up. Your friend is ignoring the plight of HIS OWN child in order to act like a screaming drama queen over the plight of children belonging to other people who have not actually sought his help?
I’d say he’s an asshole and needs to learn to take care of his kid. I’d also say similar about any friend of his who continues to justify him stealing money from children.
Incidentally, does he believe that soldiers in warzones should automatically be given full custody and the children shipped straight out there to take up residency with their father? He’s fighting for something which the proposed bill in Senate will tend to anyway. IMHO he’s just out to make himself famous over an issue.
So in short, yes, I fully support his idea and think he should get himself arrested.
It’s funny how it takes a truly brilliant person to come up with the stupidest ideas possible.
Any thoughts on just locking him in a bathroom for a week to give him a trial run?
I would have suggested giving him a copy of Jim Hogshire’s “You Are Going to Prison”, but Amazon lists it at $70.
No, make that CHILDREN and you’re accurate. Sometimew the Dope is such a great place fir a reality check and some smarts. Thanks guys.
