I don’t know, maybe you all are being too hard on it. I don’t think it was supposed to be anything more than a one-off, “what if” episode. I liked it.
A case can be made for this based on what we’ve seen. We know that the reason Walternate did not cure his son was that he was distracted by September. This ultimately led to Walter’s kidnapping of Peter from the other universe. Thus far, September’s explanation has been rather sketchy – he wanted to “observe” Walternate, and inadvertently let himself be seen. But what if that was the point? What if September’s plan all along was to make Walternate see him, thus distracting him from finding the cure, thus causing Walter to kidnap Peter, etc., etc., all in the service of engineering Henrietta, who could only be the product of Olivia (because of the cortexiphan) and the Peter from the other universe (because of – well, I’m still working on that part)?
September found a way to prevent the Observers from taking over, and executed the plan. And it would have worked too, if it weren’t for those meddling kids – Peter inadvertently erasing himself from existence. So September found a way to bring him back.
I kind of like it. I think it holds up better than “oops – he saw me!”
I love Enalzi’s theory. Hope the show’s writers come up with something as good.
Yeah, ditto. That works really well…and explains why a time-traveler would be seen (and not just go back and correct it. “Hey me from 15 minutes ago, I’m you from 15 minutes in the future. When you go observe Walternate, hang out about 2 feet to your left or he’ll see you/us, won’t develop the cure, won’t save his son and that will eventually cause cosmic fuckuppery in two universes. Mkay? Cool. Laters.”)
Henrietta is just such an odd name for this day and age. I wonder if they chose it as a reference toHenrietta Lacks the unwitting donor of an immortal cell line.
Peter and Fauxlivia’s son was Henry so Peter and Olivia probably named their daughter (or just Peter did) in honor of him.
