What’s the deal with Gunther, Hagen? Hagen murdered Siegfried, Kriemhild’s husband. Why does Gunther protect him?
Hagen convinced Gunther that Siegfried was considered the superior man, before Gunther, by the people. Also, Brunhild finds out that Siegfried tricked her into marrying Gunther and Gunther feels ashamed at that. So out of jealousy and shame, Gunther gives Hagen permission to kill Siegfried. It’s not just protection, but aiding and abetting as well.
Yes, but it’s eventually clear that Hagen murdered Siefried and Gunther continues to protect him against the wrath of Gunther’s Sister.
BTW, this was Hitler’s favorite movie.
