From SCTV and Kids in the Hall - Who have been most and least successful members?

After the ensembles broke up that is.

Which members have had the most (and least) successful show biz careers after the shows ended?

I think Dave Foley has probably had the most success after KitH, considering the long run of NewsRadio and other roles, including the voice of Flik in A Bug’s Life. I think he’s probably had more movie roles than the others also.

Of course Scott did pretty well with The Larry Sanders Show.

Bruce has gone on to direct and is somewhat successful in that.

Kevin has shown up sporadically in different films and as a voice actor - notably on Invader Zim and in the movie Lilo and Stitch (which he’ll reprise in the sequel).

Mark, I’d say, has been the least successful, at least artistically. His stint on Saturday Night Live is best forgotten. His movie roles have also been less impressive than the others.

But Kevin was in The Godson, surely one of the greatest movies of our time.

IMDB info

Well, the cast of SCTV have this many IMDB references:

John Candy: 85
Joe Flaherty: 93
Eugene Levy: 105
Andrea Martin: 101
Catherine O’Hara: 78
Rick Moranis: 46 (in spite of Ghostbusters and Honey, I Etc.
Dave Thomas: 86

I’d say that Levy & Martin are doing the best, and Rick… poor, poor Rick… and let’s not even mention Martin Short (93)…

I was going to say Kevin, because the last time I’d seen him was in a Burger King commercial. A non-speaking role, at that! He appeared at the end of the commercial as some anonymous guy sitting down at a table to eat a hamburger (at whatever special they were hawking). I was quite saddened.

I’m happy to hear he’s been doing better stuff since then (even The Godson has to be regarded as an improvement over the BK commercial).

I’d agree that Dave has had the most public success, esp. with News Radio.

Now that I hear Kevin’s doing other stuff (at least in voice acting), I’ll agree with Homebrew that Mark has been, shall we say, the most unlucky. He was on SNL at a really bad time, and they never seem to have used his talents in any skit that I can remember. I recall seeing him do the Chicken Lady in one skit–the character was funny once on KitH, but was painfully unfunny on SNL.

Kevin also has had a small role on “That '70s Show” as Pastor Dave.

People are forgetting Harold Ramis from SCTV. Only 17 acting references (most notably in “Ghostbusters”), but he’s primarily a director, with hits like “Caddyshack,” “National Lampoon’s Summer Vacation,” “Goundhog Day,” and “Analyze This.”

I’d say that Candy was the biggest star (he was one of the few from SCTV to headline films. Levy seems to be doing the best currently, but he’s no star. Ramis has overall the most solid career, though usually behind the camera.

I’d say Joe Flaherty has done the worst. He’s made a solid living, but has done little memorable work; many of his roles are walk-ons in films where another SCTV alum was featured.

No no RealityChuck you’re like the ABC schedulers–you’re totally forgetting about FREAKS AND GEEKS. Joe was terrific and he was paired with Becky Ann Baker, whom I’ve also seen onstage a number of times, most notably in TITANIC.

I think Rick Moranis has relatively few screen credits because he likely made out well on the films he appeared in and I believe his wife died at a young age and he had to spend some more time at home with his children.

Although they weren’t on SCTV for a full run, Robin Duke and Tony Rosato haven’t had huge careers.

Dave has made the most money by a long shot.

Bruce has had the most diverse career.

It could be argued that Scott’s very out career is groundbreaking in it’s way.

All are measures of success.

Martin Short has made the most money after SCTV.

In the sense that he actually made one or two movies… but let’s just stop there.

Scott was on that show Providence. He also has done solo comedy tours.

Kevin was on NewsRadio. I think all the guys have been on various shows, in small parts.

I think Eugene Levy has been the most successful considering all the mainstream movies he’s in: the American Pie franchise, A Mighty Wind, and Dumb and Dumberer.

Yeah, Martin Short was big big for a while, but then he tanked big time, and now basically only has his Jimminy Glick sthick.
