Objectively, a camera at your front door is no creepier than a peep hole, which barely registers on the creepometer.
Subjectively, … yeah, there is something a little creepy about it. Something weird about knowing you are on camera.
Go for it: we need to get over that feeling.
There may be legal issues if the camera covers an area that isn’t your property, like the house across the street. And even if there aren’t legal issues, your neighbors may have a problem.
On the other hand, your camera provides security for anything in it’s field of view.
Where I work, we have several times helped the police with footage from our outdoor cameras, because while covering our parking lot they also show the business across the street.
I get the duality:
I live in a narrow cul-de-sac: if the folks across the street put up cameras, they will cover my front yard. My next door neighbor has kids who play in the yard.
The idea that the folks across the street are “always watching” those kids play is creepy. But if one of those kids got taken by a stranger, we would all be very thankful for video footage of the whole thing.
I regret that I have no advice on what hardware to use or how to install it, as I have never been in the loop on such decisions.
