Front End Vibration Cause?

Never had any front end vibration till now. A month ago, i replaced the front tires-they were pretty worn. All was well…till last week…I now have a vibration at 58 MPH. The odd thing, if I speed up to 62 and above, the vibration goes away. I suspect that one or both tires are out of balance-I have made an appointment at the shop to have them checked and re-balanced. What else could cause this?

It could be that a balance weight was dislodged from one of the wheels when the work was done.

Damn. I was expecting something WAY more Time-Cubey from the title. I should read more carefully.

Nothing. Your symptom of getting wobbly at a certain reasonably high speed, but then getting better above that, locks it in at balance.

Other problems like any sort of damage to the steering arms, joints, rubbers, bearings, drive shaft, springs, shock absorber (mcpherson strut combines the two), etc ,etc are more simple… and they are bad when going slow and then smooth off when going at 30 mph or something. Or perhaps good when going slow and prevent you going faster, and just get worse and worse if you do.

A damaged drive shaft could possibly have an “annoying noise speed”, but that doesn’t seem to match your highly energetic annoyance.

Probably just a balance weight fell off. However it could also be a defective tire.

The least expensive thing to check and have repaired is an out of balance wheel.

Is there an excessive amount of weight on the tires? An inexperienced mechanic can mess the process up. Good balance and alignment is key to long lasting tires and components.

It was an unbalanced wheel-after the Sunset garage balanced it, no more vibration.
