Frontrunners for Democratic presidential nomination in 2028

Unless we MAKE it happen.

Either would be illegal, Unconstitutional, and both fascist and MAGA. I wouldnt want to live in such a nation, a fascist dictatorship.

We’d be clearing the fascist MAGAts out. They are actively encouraging illegal and unconstitutional acts on a daily basis. We already live in a such a nation.

Nobody said we wouldn’t get our hands dirty. But, in the words of Darth Cheney, you can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs.

After they’ve been forcibly deported, what would be the ‘omelet’ position of your ideal candidate on how to treat people who then decide to play illegal immigrant?

Pay attention to the mod note just ahead of this post.

Article in Politico today outlines the case for either Georgia senator in 2028.

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2026/06/15/georgia-democratic-senators-elections-00961080

Especially interesting is how Ossoff is brilliantly using short-form video to get himself out in front of voters across the country (Warnock too, but the focus on the article really shifted to Ossoff on this).

Ossoff and his top aide are both documentary film makers by trade, and it seems they’re able to create a buzz and a narrative for Ossoff one one-minute video short at a time.

These two guys are still 2 and 3 on my much-too-early top three list for 2028. Pritzker still sits at 1.

On the one hand, they’ve both proven that they can win in an overall-reddish state, which is good.

On the other hand, running either of them for President means losing their seat in the Senate, and that’s likely to be pretty tight, too.

Controlling one of the House, Senate, or Presidency would let us slow down the rate at which Republicans are damaging the country. Actually repairing damage, though, will require control of all three at once, for an extended time. It would do very little good to take the Presidency, if it means losing the Senate.

Will the Senate be so close in 2028 that losing one seat in Georgia would make the difference? That remains to be seen. But it’s at least a plausible scenario.

Good point, but is there a chance the Governor will be a Dem in 2028?

Well would you look at that? Trump is doing Gavin Newsom a favor here by getting a BS investigation going on him:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/gavin-newsom-doj-investigation-9.7236041

After all, Trump wasn’t just investigated, he was fully convicted on dozens of counts and he still won. Let’s see how this works out for Newsom!

I think a Pritzker/Ossoff ticket would be hard to beat. But I’m not holding my breath.

Same for a Warnock/Buttigieg ticket.

Two Jewish Senators? In a nation where Gaza and Israel are critical issues? Not now, certainly. Getting the Nomination would be almost impossible. Maybe in 2028.

What are you talking about? This thread is about 2028.

While they are both Jewish neither have been overtly supportive of Netanyahu and the actions of the IDF in Gaza. (Pritzker is a Governor, btw.)

They are also 2 of the most charismatic individuals who have been discussed as likely to run. And they don’t have the smarmy factor clinging to Newsom.

Pritzker is a governor but yeah … an all Jewish ticket would be a lot. That said either of them are good and both can condemn AIPAC as having too much power and can condemn Bibi’s governance without fear of being called antisemitic. And have. It is especially good if Gaza and conflict are ongoing and … ya think?

Yes, I know, but CURRENTLY, Gaza is a big critical issue. It might not be in 2028.

It doesnt matter. Either you are in favor of military aid to Israel, or you are not. If not you lose the support and votes of many Jewish voters- and others. If you are, you lose support of the progressives.

Right, sorry. The campaign would be all about aid to Israel- even if they didnt want it to be.

You said this which made it sound like you thought they were both running for something in the Fall. And referred to Pritzker as a Senator. I still don’t get it but continuing this would be off topic so I will drop it.

Hopefully more on topic I don’t see having a ticket where both candidates are Jewish is automatically a bad idea. I would be curious to see what polling results would say about making changes to our military aid to Israel. I’m not convinced that would drive moderate Democrats, Jewish voters or independents away from the Democrats in '28. And honestly a Jewish candidate would probably be more successful in advancing that position. Sorta like what Dseid posted above.

You think Republicans wouldn’t call a Jew antisemitic?

To keep this tied to the topic, I would say every 2028 candidate will need to be prepared for a small core of people who will absolutely still be mad about this in 2028 and beyond. They will be asking questions about what the candidate did about it at the time (such as boycott, divest and sanction or etc.) and what they intend to do about it now (since there is no way it will be “fixed” for any value of that term by then). And for what it is worth, I don’t think there are any correct answers to satisfy this crowd. No matter what Newsom or Pritzker or etc. could have done, they always could have done more in the eyes of some.

However, having said that, I think a much bigger issue for any candidate is going to be getting some engagement out of that gigantic apathetic mass in the middle who simply do not care about any of this. I think they outnumber the recreationally offended ten to one. If they knew where Gaza was they might feel one kind of way about it or another but instead they want to know why gas and grocery prices are so high and they will follow whoever barks the loudest about it (so typically, not the Democrat).

Hopefully, that core of people is very small.
