Frontrunners for Democratic presidential nomination in 2028

My point is that we are all being held hostage by idiots since the beginning of time, idiots in power, idiots in the street (specially now with cars), idiots with guns, idiots that vote (or refrain from voting), etc.

Yes, high turnout has favored Democrats in the past, but that has completely reversed during the Trump era. The people who vote most reliably are highly educated people, who used to lean Republican but have almost universally been driven into the arms of the Democrats by Trump’s aggressive anti-intellectualism.

Mitch Landrieu enters the conversation.

He was one that I had hoped would’ve jumped into the 2020 race. He would’ve brought elder white southern moderate guy with executive experience energy to the ticket at a time when we needed that. I think his time may have passed and we have better options and possibly different wants from the electorate.

The possibility of missing his window was brought up in the linked interview.

Do you ever wonder if maybe you should have run in ’19 or ’20? Like, was that maybe your better opening? Because Obama took his chance in ’08. Chris Christie famously didn’t take his chance in ’12.

Neither did Mario Cuomo.

And Mario Cuomo never took his shot. He got on the plane. And never got to New Hampshire.

So timing is everything in this business. Was ’20 your best shot?

I don’t know.

Would you have been Pete in ’20? I guess that’s the question, right?

Most certainly. At least. I don’t take anything away from Pete. I think Pete’s a superstar.

But you would’ve broken out, been competitive in Iowa and New Hampshire.

I think arguably. I could have had it. …

He actually won Iowa.

He did win Iowa. He did great. I mean, he did an unbelievable thing.

But that could have been you!

I could’ve been a contender!

We’re gonna be at Mosca’s in like 2039, and you’re gonna be like, “I should have run in ’20, damn it.”

You know, the truth is, when you look back over your life — I’ve had 10 elections. I’ve won eight of them in the first primary. But you think about the shots that you didn’t take. Of course.

Has he done anything else? Straight from mayor to President is a pretty big jump.

As the linked article says, he served in the Biden administration and was also the Lt Governor of Louisiana.

Andy’s back in the news.

Newsom vetoes bill banning people from secretly recording strangers, because he craves Facebook cash.

Not even close-

Newsom said in a letter to lawmakers on Wednesday that he declined to sign the draft law, California Senate Bill 1130, on grounds that it defines wearable recording devices as “too broadly or imprecisely” and that this could lead to confusion and unintended consequences. Newsom added that the proposed bill also includes protections that already exist in California’s law.

Nothingburger. And you can do the exact same thing with a cell phone.

Right. Nothing Newsom does means what it means. He’s totally not throwing his constituents under the bus yet again to curry favor with Mark Zuckerberg. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

By vetoing a foolish law? That will not have any real effect, except get tossed out by the courts? The law only bans one class of items to stop people-being recorded in public places without their explicit consent. But individuals have no reasonable expectation of privacy when they are in plain view outside. First Amendment protections allow members of the public and journalists to take photographs and record video in any public space where they are lawfully present, such as sidewalks, parks, and public streets. (there are exceptions). Otherwise every news photographer or news camera operator and paparazzi would be in jail. And people using their cell phones to record a celebration, such as a marriage proposal would have to get written consent from everyone in the background.

So the bill would be tossed by the courts.

So is upskirting legal then?

You seem to have a committed belief that the CA legislature spends all its time passing pointless and harmful legislation that their governor of the same party has no choice but to selflessly veto in the name of the public good.

That is one of the exceptions, since women do have a reasonable expectation of privacy for that. In most cases.

They pass something like 1000 bills a year. And yeah, often they want the voters to see their “Yea” vote on a bill, even if it is gonna be tossed by the courts or is useless.

So then, if Newsom does not veto a stupid law- that is his fault also? The legislature has no blame? Nor the lobbyists?

Would you care to explain why it’s a good thing he signed a law making it harder for child sexual assault survivors to sue the governmental institutions that were complicit in covering up crimes?

One of the biggest red flags with Newsom is how much he torched his credibility with regular dems to impress some chuds and maybe cozy up to the donors. It’s the same angle Seth Moulton took, with a predictable outcome.

I don’t trust him to run a presidential admin, or be a standard bearer for the party.

And thanks to the pervert glasses you can now upskirt someone just by looking at them.

I’d rather not live in that one episode of Black Mirror.

Only if you’re looking at them from a very unusual angle.

The law imposes $25,000 punishments for lawyers who pursue a case on behalf of a client they believed was lying about their allegations or otherwise didn’t have a reasonable basis for suing. SB577 also directs the California attorney general to investigate allegations of child sexual abuse and allegations of fraudulent cases in Los Angeles County, specifically. A Los Angeles Times investigation last year revealed that some plaintiffs said they were paid to sue, in some cases over fabricated claims of sexual assault.\

Yeah, he made things tough for crooked lawyers.

Yep.

I love when they make up names for things “pervert glasses”. One company sold 7 million last year alone- damn, that’s a lot of perverts. :weary_cat: You can do the exact same thing with a cell phone- maybe we can call them “pervert phones” now?

And again- the law is NOT Constitutional.

I am not even sure what your point is here, and i think we have done this to death.

The point is that I’d prefer not to live in a world where I’m being constantly recorded by total strangers who can play back their own visual input on demand and that Gavin Newsom feels that letting a world like that exist is worth it to get tech billionaires to donate to him.
