Not to rehash a previous campaign, one of the many horrible mistakes was not trying to show the voters what was really going on with inflation. They were getting hit in the face everyday by the opposition and putting up no defense. Sure if you delved deep into the Harris website I’m sure you could find something about it. Anyone taking that kind of deep dive was probably already on her side.
Now I’m afraid someone might refrain from mocking him lest they be thought to be mocking the disabled. Actually, it’s more than likely it’s Steven Chung, his malformed shadow, who writes postings in his style.
No. Just…no. Why would you bother to carry even a drop of water for this madman? There is no lens through which mocking Donald Trump is anything other than punching up. Way up. He literally has all the power and is trying to accumulate more every day. MOCK THE FUCK AWAY with no compunction, I say.
Exactly. It’s nice to see the Democrats upping their trolling and shit-talking game for a change, and realizing that taking the high road and adhering to the traditional playbook won’t work against the Orange One.
Because – for reasons I don’t really understand – his supporters, a lot of whom are actually, legitimately, marginalized by poverty or poor education, identify with him and his persecution complex. Mocking Trump, from their point of view, feels like mocking them, and it makes them dig in ever deeper, so I don’t think it’s a winning strategy if you’re interested in doing more than preaching to the choir
Trump wasn’t some downtrodden kid who went to a poorly funded public school. He went to an elite private military academy, and followed that up with four years at an Ivy League school. And his supporters certainly don’t see him as dumb or pitiful.
Honestly this is the same attitude that caused the Harris campaign to stop using “weird” as an attack line against Trump and Vance, even as it was gaining some real traction.
After 8 years, D campaign strategists were (and are) still scarred by “deplorables”.
It is true that the MAGA base somehow both sees Trump as strong and great and feels any attacks on him are reallly signaling hate against them all. Their media and influencers hammer that home constantly. But the D’s keeps letting them be the ones who define the terms.
Come on D’s, “He never hurt or upset anyone” is a lame inscription to put on your gravestone.
But Democratic “strategists” are still scarred by how Team Trump twisted it into “she’s calling ALL OF YOU deplorable” and weaponized and threw it back at her. So to this day they keep holding their fire.
Hillary Clinton said that half of Trump’s supporters were a “basket of deplorables.” That may have been true, it may still be true, but it was a stupid thing to say politically. You don’t win elections by criticizing voters. Criticizing the opposing candidate is fine, criticizing the opposing party is fine. But criticizing half of Trump’s potential voters leaves all of them feeling attacked, this despite the fact that Clinton also said the other half supported Trump because they felt left behind and ignored.
As for calling the Republicans “weird,” I always thought this was a stupid strategy. It sounded childish and pathetic, like an ineffectual attempt at a Trump-style insult.
The “weird” stuff was great, because they are weird. Their obsession with children’s bathrooms is weird. There’s a ton of other little weird things like that. Vance is weird as FUCK.
It was working and then they stopped because the campaign people got scared and thought they needed to be more moderate and have more Republicans on the campaign trail.
Attack where they’re weak, and their weirdness is weak. The next time around, say Trump and the GOP chose CANCER in the war on cancer. Make the attacks simple.
The people insulted with basket of deplorables hate government. They will not ever vote for a democrat. A few odd democrats would be tolerable to them. In that case, they do not bother to vote at all. They vote…agains the federal goverment. Vaccines. Masks. Parking tickets. Traffic circles. Whatever locally interests them. They hate mayors too.
"You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? [Laughter/applause]. The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric. Now some of those folks, they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America.”
and i concur with every word.
No. Vance is creepy, not weird. Weird is good. Many of us here are weird.
Very good.
However, this may be getting off the point of this thread.
