Hi, just a heads up that two interesting games are on sale on Steam. Bear in mind that I’m in Australia, though. US prices may be better.
Frozen Synapse is a squad vs squad turn based strategy title. Maybe of interest to XCOM: Enemy Unknown fans. Metacritic 85/7.7. You get two copies for $4.99, or the “Complete” (includes a DLC) version is 2 copies for $6.99.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning looks to be an action RPG. Possibly interesting to Skyrim or Torchlight/Diablo players. Metacritic scores are 81 and 6.4. Main game is $8.99, with 2 expansions plus an armor and weapons pack it’s $14.99.
Kingdoms is a really good game with very high production values. Think of it as the beautiful lovechild of Dragon Age and the Arkham series.
Well, I picked up KoA:R, played it enough to certainly have got my money’s worth, but I can’t say it compares well to my favorite RPGs like Skyrim, Fallout 3, or The Witcher 2. Seemed like it did a lot of things well but not very well; it also did a lot of things badly enough to grate. It seems like it’s a few years older than it really is. I don’t regret the purchase, but I kinda regret the time I put into it.
I put very little time into Amalur. I felt like I was playing in a big, empty MMO, but without the sense of scale and history that made Skyrim so compelling.
