Fuck "New" Yahoo Mail - the old one wasn't broken

Really? I blocked http://.yimg.com/.swf a long time ago and haven’t had any trouble since.

I guess just to belabor a point, I have no idea what that means, nor would it have ever crossed my mind to do that.

This a.m. “new” yahoo was creeping and freezing. This morning when I clicked on “classic” yahoo, it asked if I wasnted to permantly switch back. It did not do this yesterday.

It asked if I wanted to give feedback, and I did. Upon switching back, “classic” yahoo performed pretty much the way I remember it always performing. Again, something it didn’t do yesterday.

That is one thing that bugs me about computers. My main desire is that to the extent possible, the computer act the same way day after day after day.

I will bear any number of babies you desire. You rock!

I’m ambivalent about the new Yahoo mail. It does have some nice aspects, especially in composing mail, but it takes time to start up and it tends to bog down my browser. I a little of each version.

Speaking of Yahoo mail, has anyone had their spam volume go way, way down? I have an old main email address, from before it was common knowledge that you had to protect an address. I’ve been afraid to get rid of it because so many people have that address.

I was getting more than 100 spams a day. Most of them went in my spam folder, but I still had to check that folder for legit emails so it didn’t help that much. Suddenly now it’s down to about 10 spams a day, total in my inbox and spam folder. Does anyone know what happened? On the other hand, a mailing list I subscribe to is getting put in my spam folder now. Even if they changed the filtering though, that doesn’t explain why my spam folder is so empty.

Has anyone else (with or without Yahoo) had a sudden drop in spamming?

For what it’s worth, I just logged into my Yahoo Mail account and the classic version appeared. I checked out the Beta version of the “new site,” but preferred to stick with the older one.

What he said.

I’ve found that it goes in waves - I’ll be getting 1 a day for a while, and then it’ll creep up until it’s about 15, then drop back down again. From the types that I get, it seems like one or two spammer will figure out how to get past the filters, and I’ll get more. After a while, Yahoo will adjust the filters, stopping that wave.

Coincidentally, I was cleaning out some old files and discs in my office, and happened to run across this e-mail dated 8/18/94:

Please find attached, instructions on how to send and receive E-Mail through
the Internet. This functionality gives us the ability to send E-Mail to anyone
with an Internet address. Please be conscious of confidentiality concerns.
The Internet is not secure. Use password encrypted text files when warranted.

Man, I feel like I stepped out of a Wayback machine!

You received an email that tells you how to receive email?

I was using the New Yahoo, until about a month ago. “Offline Messages” (whatever the fuck that means) started appearing while I was logged in. I didn’t have to open any to realize it was spam. Everytime I tried to leave, Yahoo warned me about losing these unread messages! It became very annoying after several weeks, so I switched back to Classic. Classic sucks, compared to the new version, but I can’t stand those damn Offline Messages. I think its time to 86 Yahoo Mail.

Yep, I changed, didn’t like it, and changed back.

The offline messages are coming from Yahoo Messenger, which is now integrated into the email. You can set it so that it isn’t logging you in to the Messenger every time. It’s the link that says “Online” right next to the Yahoo Mail symbol in the top left hand corner of the screen.

If you don’t use Yahoo Messenger, the offline messages are most likely spim.

Classic user here. New version sucks pondwater.

I will probably be hung in the streets like Mussolini for saying this, but I have been using the new version for a while (I’ve known about it before the OP has), and I love it. It’s much easier to have all of your e-mails load as one page rather than have them load as seperate web pages as in the Classic.

I’m not a yahoo mail user, but I wonder if they’re just blocking more domains. I work for a large public school system, and we just had a notice posted on our intranet last week that apparently NO e-mail with our our corporate extension on it could get through to yahoo mail accounts, and that they were working on fixing it.

I guess a lot of parents won’t be hearing from their kids’ teachers …

Yahoo has silently added free POP access to a lot of people, so you could try using your own email client. You can just try configuring it for Yahoo. Or try to sign up for Yahoo’s Mail Plus, and if it doesn’t let you (it may say the feature is no longer available), you now have POP access.

Hint: empty the spam folder first.
