Fuck Steve Jobs, fuck Apple

So, about a month ago I bought an iphone4. Great phone. I started to get into itunes and downloaded about 7 albums. Well, the other day I downloaded an album and when I was done it showed up on my ipod, but 7 other albums had disappeared. I found where I could download them again, but when I tried to do that, Apple said they weren’t purchased with my Apple id. Bullshit. They sure as hell were. I want my damn songs, Steve. Fuck you…and fuck Apple, too.

I buy CDs. I burn them to my server so I can play them on any of my computers. I copy whatever to my Nano.

I will never experience your problem. Ever.

I buy CDs and rip the .mp3s myself. I’m another person who will never experience the problem you described.

Until the day comes that so few people are buying CDs that it’s not cost-effective to produce them anymore, and the only way to purchase music is to download it from iTunes or a similar site.

I buy my music from websites that don’t attempt to control my music purchases. Not out of any sort of principle, mind you. I just dislike iTunes and haven’t bothered to install it since the last time it pissed me off and other websites don’t seem to pull that sort of nonsense.

Have you tried calling the nearest Apple Store and asking them how to resolve your problem? Anytime I’ve had difficulty with iTunes or an iPod I just call my local Apple Store and they always resolve it (or guide me in solving it)…and in a helpful and friendly way.

I prefer to buy a physical CD if they are in the same price range. I then rip it to my hard drive and put it in iTunes. I take the CD out, put it back in its case and store it away. If anything happens, I still have a pristine copy to make another mp3 from.

I’m not sure that day isn’t more or less now. I also only buy physical CDs. About half of the albums I’ve wanted to buy this year have been download only. To be fair I listen to a lot of local / independent bands. I’m sure Lady Gaga and other major stars will continue to produce CDs for the foreseeable future, but I think a lot of the industry has already abandoned the medium.

Much as I love to hate on Apple;

Just send an email to iTunes.

More than once, I’ve mistakenly deleted a bunch of purchased songs. Every time Apple support was really helpful.

I have been able to re-download my whole damn library twice now.

If you got a bad rep on the first try, just try again.

Yeah. I honestly can’t remember the last time I purchased a physical disc. Maybe 2006? 2007? And I was the guy thinking iTunes wasn’t going to fly because why charge $1 a song or $10 an album when I could (at least at the time) find CDs on sale for less than that price at Best Buy. Guess I was wrong, in a big way. I get all my music digitally these days. I do miss the album art and the physical product, but apparently not enough to actually haul my ass down to the record store or whatever they call it these days.

I thought I was going to miss album art etc. a lot more than I actually did. It’s turned out to be sort of a relief that I don’t have to keep track of all those physical discs anymore. And honestly, there’s nothing in the pre-digital age (at least not for me) that compares to the experience of hearing a new artist on Pandora, previewing a few of his other songs in Spotify, and then buying the whole album from iTunes and adding it to my collection, all in the space of 15 minutes or so.

And yeah, OP, I’d contact Apple support before just writing off your purchases.

Huh? Why do you miss album art? Every song I have still has the cover in the ID3 tag.

Then again, I just listen to music on YouTube these days.

My iTunes display is set up so that the album art is pretty small, and I don’t have it for all of my ripped CDs anyway. But like I said, I don’t really miss it that much.

Buy music? People still do that?

Disclaimer: I have an iPhone and use iTunes to manage the music on it.

But I don’t buy music from Apple. Ever. I buy 256kbps MP3s from Amazon or Rhapsody. No problems with downloading from either. My PC hates those clunky AAC files Apple uses and I never get a good uncomplicated download from the iTunes store.

No. This entire thread is a clever put-on for your benefit. How did you ever see through our ruse?

Fuck Steve Jobs? No Way!

He’s got The Cancer, and I don’t want to get that on me.

I switched to Napster years ago and never looked back. I pay a monthly subscription fee, and it’s vastly less money than I would spend if I had to purchase all the music I download to my phone/computer and stream on both. If I purchased all that music, I would spend at least $60-$100 a month. I spend $10. Though I may switch to Spotify. I’m just holding out to see how things sort out in the next year or so.

I have to use iTunes to back up my phone and update it, but that’s it. I was so happy when Napster launched the Droid/iPhone app and I could wash my hands of the convoluted way I had to get Mp3’s to iTunes before that, just to get them onto the stupid phone.

Probably the primary reason I use Carbonite is to backup my music. Now that I can store it all on Google Music, I might cancel it.

I heart Steve Jobs. A lot. It’s almost creepy.
