Harsh but likely.
Not sure how you coach someone not to commit a felonious assault on the field. Is there a drill for that? Right after the calisthenics, but before Special Teams Punt Return practice?
Team sport. Kinda sucks to be knocked out by other’s behavior, but when I grew up playing sports in school and in the dojo, we were held collectively responsible for our teammates. Wierd a few decades later that no longer seems to be the default.
Well, your teammate drops the game-winning touchdown, the whole team loses…
Though I’d focus the punishment on the player. And in this case, the school officials/coaches who let him play after his previous crime (yep, it’s a crime. I was so glad when they charged him with assault).
Besides the fact he apparently had a previous incident, I can guarantee he had an attitude problem. And if the coaches weren’t aware of it or worse, tolerated it, they should be sharing the suspension.
Well, my alma mater used to do a “lovely day” drill which focused on self-control and calming onesself. It paid off at least once in a playoff game where an opposing player attempted to goad a Johnnie after a play - he stay calmed, they got a 15 yard penalty.
Yeah, coaches know their players pretty well - they spend a lot of time together. Even without the prior soccer incident, the coaches are aware of behaviors of all the players in various situations. They had to know this player had a temper and should have had him riding the bench - that’s how they coach poor behavior out of the player. Maybe they felt winning was more important than proper coaching.
“This is Texas football, motherfuckers”
I get being fired up and aggressive, that’s part of competition. Even if it leads to conduct penalties. But putting a cheap shot on a ref? That’s chickenshit behavior.
I wonder if the kid is 'roided up.
Kid was originally thrown out of the game by the Ref for un-sportsman like conduct. The kid really knows how to up the ante.
I thought it was misdemeanorious?
I don’t know, but is surely disastrous.
disasterious?
Mayhaps.
His method of protest lends a lot of support to the ref’s decision to eject him in the first place.
“Eject me from the game?! I’ll eject you from the WORLD!!!”
Oh, bless his little sweet heart. He only wants to play just like the big boys.
Fuckwits. You can arrest him one-two-three for any other crimes. He should be arrested for this. And prosecuted.
Interestingly, Garrett’s teammates have made him their nominee for this year’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award. When he’s not assaulting opponents with a deadly weapon, he’s apparently a swell guy who dedicates lots of time and resources to worthy causes.
